Re: 1wt rod, am I crazy?

3 years ago, at the Denver Fly Fishing show, I went in deadset on picking-up a 3wt for fishing RMNP. In talking with several folks that fish RMNP quite a bit, many swore on using the TXL 000 as the...

Re: Big Thompson River Fish Study

I live in longmont, so I drove through Lyons and took 36 to get there. Places where the river was 20-30 wide (far edge of bank to far edge) were 50-150 wide in some places. Boulders, tree, debris...

Re: Big Thompson River Fish Study

Took my first drive up to Estes today after the flood. Sad to see so many homes and businesses devastated. Fished one of me favorite holes and pulled out some wonderfully colored rainbows...brought...

Coming back to tying and need materials

I am getting back into fly tying after a few year hiatus and I am wondering how most efficiently and cost effectively start re-accumulating tying materials. I have vise and tools, but I am dismally...

Re: RMNP (in late may?)

The park is great in late May. You'll have a choice of rivers/creeks or high alpine lakes. No snowshoes needed at all. Runoff will not be crazy this year, so don't hesitate to hit rivers/creeks...

Re: Rmnp

I would second the vote for East Inlet trail. Once you get past Adams falls (only 0.3 mi in) you can be practically by yourself. Bring bug spray b/c the mostquitos are awful past the falls. No...

Entomology class--why did I wait this long?

Yesterday I took my first on-the-river entomology class. We started at a the dam of a local tailwater and followed the river 10 miles down from there. We stopped every few miles to seive, identify...

Re: Hardy flyweight 101--basic question

Thanks Ard, you convinced me to go for a featherweight instead of a flyweight. I was initially put off of featherweight b/c it seemed to be indicated for 4/5/6 wt rods and I thought it wouldn' work...

Hardy flyweight 101--basic question

Thanks in advance for your help/feedback.

I am looking for a reel for my Scott G2 3wt and think I've settled on a Hardy flyweight. Basically, I like the look of the reel, the simplicity, and...

Re: Fly fishing instruction in Ft Collins, Co

I've not taken a guided trip through St. Peter's in Fort Collins nor have I talked to anyone who has. Perhaps someone else can comment on that shop specifically.

If you are new/novice, I do...

Re: Fished St. Vrain yesterday, forgot my camera--ughh!

You are right Ard....got a little excited there. I will definitely keep it more generic next time. At least I didn't say where exactly I caught those two browns--I'll keep that specific place close...

Fished St. Vrain yesterday, forgot my camera--ughh!

Went to fish the St. Vrain river for a couple of hours yesterday. Parked the car and walked to the river (small really for those of you that haven't seen it). Realized when I got there that I...

Re: "Experienced" Scott G2s hard to find?

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the early consensus is that I need to be a little more patient on finding the G2 I want. I wish I could say "need", but this is definitely in my "want" catagory....

"Experienced" Scott G2s hard to find?

I've been looking for a lightly used G2 (3 or 4 wt) and noticed that they don't seem to be very available on classifieds, ebay, etc. I haven't done an exhaustive comparison to other rod...

Re: Wading Pants: Simms Headwater vs G3 Guide?

Same opinion....maybe I like them even more than I originally thought. I figured this out in late Oct when I headed up to the Roaring River and accidentally grabbed my chest waders. Got...

Re: Ants

Dry for me.

Last weekend I fished them on Glacier Creek in rmnp. Worked well to bounce it off of a boulder. As soon as it hit the water a brookie was on it.

I had less luck floating them...

I would recommend contacting either Laughing Grizzly Fly Shop (Longmont) or Front Range Anglers (Boulder). Both...

Where to start with trying furled leader?

I'd like to try using a furled leader. Never tried one before and I'm curious to try something new to compare to typical tapered leaders I have been using since I started ffing.

Any...
