Re: Wd-40

Yes to both and I'd add fishing it with no floatant at all as well as behind a weight / weighted fly to get it down deep. Can fish it deep like a nymph, in various parts of the water column and also...

Re: Just finished my 0wt build

I'll add that I love the seats I get from Dave Winslow. He offers three styles available and turns the inserts himself. Very easy to work with, nice site that is great to navigate with prices...

+1 I figure buy what you want, it is a custom rod and reel seats can be a very beautiful part of a build. Love the build and look forward to seeing some pictures of it in action. Where did you get...

Ll bean has various styles in each size. Take a look at the sizes listed. Also you can order and if it isn't right exchange it easily. Great customer service.

Re: A beautiful rod, well priced

The one piece cork grips you are talking about are likely made of cork rings (just like the Beulah rod) only the rings are just cork rings rather than burnt or burl rings. They can be pricey if the...

Re: How does hot weather effect trout?

Hot weather can raise the water temps, lowering the O2 content and stressing trout. However, the S Platte in Waterton should have reasonable stable water temps since it is a tailwater. To be sure...

Re: Fishing a Private Wyoming Ranch: The Highs and Lows!

Beautiful fish and pictures Larry. Looks like a great spot, even if some fish get spooked. Who knows, perhaps you'll be teaching his son to fish?

Re: Best reel for a classic trout Rod?

For that price I'd get the Orvis Battenkill reel, it comes it at $98. Great look, simple design, nice reel, and very good customer service to back it up. For cheaper you can look at the 100 series...

Re: Guide Costs and Gratuities

According to the Economist article I linked above in this thread it was "To Insure Promptitude" but same idea... however, how often do you get to use the word 'promptitude'? Seems a shame to pass up...

Re: Guide Costs and Gratuities

In some ways of looking at it, it can seem an absurdity, but I think it is a cultural practice that has made its way into wages / prices. If we stop tipping or start tipping less I think prices...

Re: Guide Costs and Gratuities

I'd guess the real answer is rather complex. We are comparing similar jobs in two different countries with different tax systems, economies, and benefits provided by the government (health insurance...

Re: Cracked single foot guide

I'd get it replaced. If you are building the rod it is worth doing it right rather than starting with damaged components.

I've personally painted blanks using spray paint and clear coat. Whether it is manufacturers painting/coloring blanks or builders painting them I think it is part of designing a rod. We could focus...

Re: Video of the Colorado Division of Wildlife air dropping Cutthroats

There's some discussion about it in "an entirely synthetic fish", which is a good read. Said before plane and helicopters fish would be tossed from trains when they'd pass over streams. Shorter...
