Re: Nymphing fast water?

Yes, get George Daniel's book. It's going to be a classic.
Personally, I don't like nymphing in fast water unless the water is relatively shallow. Wading in fast water can be a challenge.

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

For threading small flies I use the C&F threaders. They really help. I used to use the flip-down magnifier on my sunglasses. The problem for me is that I fish a lot of heavily shaded small streams...

Re: Kelly Galloup Article.

What if find interesting about the article is Kelly's philosophy on streamer fishing: often the most realistic flies don't work. After all, what does a Muddler Minnow look like?

Soon, I'm going to...

Re: Chest, Waist, or Hip Waders?......

Chest, and breathable. I also try to stay out of deep water, but every now and then the water is deeper than I think.

Besides, I can always fold down my chest waders and wear them as waist waders....

Re: Great scandi casting video

To be honest, I found the video somewhat lacking (not enough technique). The video didn't help me improve my casting.

My two cents,

Re: Best value 4wt

If you're looking for a moderately fast rod I'd got with a Cabela's rod.

Re: Vise Recommendations

I would certainly try to get a true rotary. A lot of good recommendations. I think you have to consider if you're going to tie saltwater flies. If not, I'd also look at a Danvise and a Griffin...

Re: Line for Redington CT 8'6" 5 wt

I use my Sylk - made for bamboo rods - line and it works fine. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I think any decent 5-weight line will work. Just keep in mind, some 5 weights lines are a little...

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

For me, the reason I apply most of my power with the bottom hand (when executing a underhand cast) is to use my top hand as a brake.

Other than that, I don't see why more power should be applied...

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

I tend to end the underhand cast with the butt in the middle of my belly or chest. (I tend to cast with my hands a little higher than most.) I don't think it really matters if the butt is slightly on...

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

Running Fish,

It's important that your spey rod and spey line match. If you're casting a short rod you'll be better off casting a short-head line.

On my 12'6" foot rod I use a traditional...

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

When executing an underhand cast 70 per cent or so of the power is applied with the bottom hand. Underhand casting is generally used when casting short, Scandinavian shooting-head lines. I guess you...

Re: What is the best full flex rod made today?

Can't say it's the best, but it's the best for the buck: Redington Classic Trout.

Also, Eric Peper's and Gary Lafontaine's book about fishing the Beaverkill. A great, inexpensive guide book.

Re: GRXi+ vs Classic Trout

If you're looking for a slow action rod you can't beat the CT at it's price. I would get the CT, then down the road buy a faster rod. I like having same weight rods with different actions.

I love...

Re: cabelas CZN

IMHO you won't have to upgrade. I've found that premium rods didn't make me a better caster.

Re: Moderate Action 8wt Suggestions?

I would look at a Redington Classic Trout, though it might be a bit too slow for you.

A great rod for the price.

Re: Soft Hackles

The Leisenring/Hidy book will cost you a lot of bucks. The Sports Illustrated Wet Fly Fishing is written by Hidy. A used copy doesn't cost as much.
