Re: Need advice on a new rod

I have the 9' 4wt CT. It can be a little tip heavy with too light a reel, but it's a very good all around trout rod.

Re: ISO Size 13 Wading Boots

I have a pair of simms felt bottom in 13 that are too big for me. May work out for you.

Re: Orvis Helios 2 VS Recon

I agree with the previous posters who suggest going to try them both out and see which one you prefer. That's what I did. Almost as soon as the Recon was in stock, I went to my local Orvis to do a...

Re: Question for the kayak fishermen

I agree with dpreller on 2 points: don't mod your rig until you've fished out of it a few times and be careful about anchoring in current.

I personally fish from a Native Ultimate 14.5. I have...

Re: TFO LK Professional II Series

My first truly quality rod was a TFO Pro II. They're great rods for a great price. I'd call them just a fuzz on the fast side of medium fast. Very forgiving, but also enough umph to do a lot of...

Re: which TFO 6wt?

BVK will definitely be faster than the mangrove. They are thin walled, but just be careful and you should be alright. As you know, TFO has a killer warranty if something does happen.

Re: Reddington butter stix vs echo glass

I know this has nothing to do with the Butterstick or the ECHO, but Cabela's has their CGR and PRIME 1 piece glass rods on sale right now for $80 and $99, respectively. I have a friend who absolutely...

Re: Glass Fly Rod

I too have caught the Fiberglass bug. It started with a modern Featherlight 7' 5/6. Even though that rod is a bit of a dog as far as rods go, for $21 it's still an incredible rod for the money.

I...

Re: Orvis Recon

I admit, I didn't sit here and read all 9 pages, so this may have already been covered. But, I thought I'd throw in my experience for whatever it's worth.

I went to my local Orvis last Friday...

Re: Where are all the new builds?

I've been waiting on my blank from Steffen since September. I hope it will be here by the end of the month.

In the meantime I built a practice rod on a no name glass 7' 3wt.

Re: Resolutions. Stupid things I am going to quit doing this year...

I made a resolution to myself to be content with the gear I have. I have only been back into fly fishing for 3 years or so after about 10 years away. I already have a two 3wts, two 4s, two 6s, and...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Felt like tying something big. No name, just what came to me as I sat down to the vise.

Re: Line for Redington CT 7'6" 3wt

I was really impressed with the Cabelas Prestige Plus WFF line I put on mine. Great value, especially at half off!

I wonder if Abel had meetings before pricing their little tools in order to confer how badly they could possibly hose the fly angling populace before people would catch on. I guess $50 is what they...

Re: Reel for a 10 wt under 150

Allen's Alpha III is right in that price range and is bullet proof. Plus you get truly world-class customer service should you ever need it. I'm pretty sure when cranked down, the drag could either...

Another place to find some great deals is in the classifieds of this...

Re: Rod help

This may sound crazy, but you can get an Eagle Claw Featherlight 7' 5/6 from Walmart for about $21. It's a great river bass rod (exactly what I use it for) and will throw anything from a 4wt to an...

Re: TFO BVK 8 wt for dry fly fishing

I have a feeling no 8wt is going to be very good at protecting 6-7X tippet. Definitely not the right tool for the job. Kind of like using a sledge hammer to tap in finish nails.

Re: Blue Halo and Epic

Blue Halo and Epic are opposite ends of the spectrum. Runningfish hit the nail on the head with the softness/slowness of the Blue Halo. I was considering building one and talked to a lot of folks,...
