Re: Sage ACCEL

I think that the big boys should be more concerned about competing with the Korean rods with their top tier gear. Expert casters aside, these Korean rods are just more fun to fish and deliver more...

Re: Brown Trout Pics

Local big river Brown I was lucky enough to encounter on a short evening trip.
These guys are hard to hook with all the pressure this system gets but put on a real show. The current is strong making...

Re: Need some advice on some new line

I have been experimenting with a few different 5wt lines lately and the SA Mastery Textured Trout is by far my favorite and the Mastery Trout Taper is a close second.

The textured line slides...

Re: July Caption Competition-Sponsored by Allen Fly Fishing

The latest release from Rob Ford Campaign Headquarters suggests "the monkey is off his back" and that this is clearly a "one horse race" for the top job in Toronto. Ontario voters are still a little...

Re: Redington Customer Service

I think what ruins the Link (at least for me) is the balance and swing weight. It is like they made extra effort to add tip heavy. The action of the rod is not bad and it does have a nicer flexing...

Re: Sage ACCEL

As a sales and marketing guy, I find the $600 price point an interesting position and a mistake IMO.

I think it would be safe to say that anyone that can afford a $600 rod can afford pretty much...

Re: Redington Customer Service

I had the exact same experience when my son broke his CPX. I requested an upgrade to the Link model and received it with no issues even though replacement pieces for the CPX were available. It too is...

Re: Brown Trout Pics

I switched to 5x for the second one above but the first one was the bigger fish.

I have come to love the 8'6" 5wt Zenith and Ultralite DD combo. It protects tippet almost as well as my 4wt ZXL and...

Re: Brown Trout Pics

Highlight of a nice day on the water. I didn't think I was going to get this guy to the net on 6x tippet so snapped a couple of him on the way in. Luckily he decided to allow me to bring him to the...

Re: Brown Trout Pics

Rivers are finally starting to clear up nicely and the Browns are starting to get into their summer routine. Too early for hoppers here but I figured someone has to eat the first one :).

An Evening with the Drakes (pic heavy)

Beautiful evening on the water. Hot and too sunny to begin with but you could tell a hatch was going to come off.

Wow! Talk about grumpy.... With 20+ years of guiding experience you would think he would know when to duck!

Re: Brown Trout Pics

Young fellow and I got out for a few hours on Father's Day. Nice to see a few of these drifting down stream.

Re: Sage noobies

It states that the Accel is replacing the VXP which was developing a pretty good following. The new Accel is rated as a fair bit lighter but the price has crept up a hundred dollars. At $600 it had...

Re: Big fish, small flies

Great thread.

I don't have a lot to add except an experience with a very large Brown. I hooked him at dark during a Drake hatch (insert any idiot with a rod here) knowing full well he had rejected...

Re: Re finishing a reel

I have had great luck with Krylon Fusion paint on everything. I even did a rod blank with it and it held up. I recently did an old fly reel and it looks great but I have not fished it since painting....

Re: Help picking a new 6 wt

Re: 9', #5 Rods - master of nothing....

Most modern 5wts are closer to true 6wt now anyway. With the popularity of 5.5wt lines like Grand and GPX I would suggest a 5.5wt is the best "jack of all trades" rod.

The golf industry followed...

Re: My Dad's old Cortland GRF 1000...

I have an 8'6" Cortland glass rod that belonged to my late father. It has a very smooth action and is lots of fun to fish. My son was introduced to fly fishing using this rod and fished it for...
