Re: Hello from Virginia

I'm glad to see bass fishermen here. I haven't had a lot of luck with bass on a fly rod but after reading a lot of posts here I will be armed with plenty of new tricks.

Re: beginning rod vs. intermediate, advanced

No argument about the price thing.

I let the local fly shop talk me into buying a Sage Xi2 and a Scott S3s rods for bass fishing. It was an expensive lesson because for the life of me I can't...

Re: beginning rod vs. intermediate, advanced

Being somewhat of a beginner myself I can agree with this. I have two $600+ rods from Sage and Scott and they are both fast action rods. I get frustrated at times because I can't feel the rods load...

Re: Flies on E-Bay

I would be interested mainly in different types of flies that are good for bass and pickerel. Divers in white and chartreuse with a little silver flash added in the 1/0 range and Bluegill pattern...

Re: casting sinking lines

I bought 6" steel leaders from the Orvis store for the fly rod. On the bait caster I use a 8" fluorocarbon 30lb leader and it holds up good.

Re: casting sinking lines

Thanks for the info. I did get the Gen 3 clear intermediate line so hopefully I won't have any problems. I've had good luck using Zoom plastic baits on a bait caster around the downed trees and weed...

Re: Almost ready

I had never heard of a tiger trout until I came to this sight a few days ago. They are a beautifully colored fish. I'm hoping to take a trout school with the local Orvis store next month so I can...

Virginia Fly Fishing Festival

Being fairly new to the art of fly fishing I've never been but I'm told by some of the old timers it's well worth the trip. For those who have never been in the Waynesboro, VA area it is also close...

Suggestions for a smallie trip and class in Virginia

I will be able to take my annual motorcycle trip in June and am thinking of including a smallmouth fishing trip at the same time.

Can anyone suggest a good area to go where I can find a guided...

Re: casting sinking lines

For fishing streamers 4-6 feet deep for bass would you guys use a sinking line or sinking tip line? When I purchased my 8 wt rod from Orvis last weekend I had WF8F put on the reel and and...

Flies on E-Bay

Do any of you guys or gals sell your flies on E-Bay?

Anything for smallmouth, largermouth, carp, bluegills or pickerel would interest me. I would rather support someone on the forum if possible...

Re: How to fasten two loops together

Thanks Frank, you give very nice directions. Speaking as a noob everything help.

PS: I'm going to try the loop at the leader to tippet connect. I would make changing tippet size for different...

Re: Carp!

Nice fish and cool hat. How far do you normally need to cast to keep from spooking them? The one large carp I've caught was by accident but after seeing how hard they fight I wouldn't mind catching a...

WOW, very nice. What do you primarily fish for? The flies with the feathered tails look really cool.

Re: Looking for another #8 bass fly rod

After searching the forum and the web it seems most people consider the Sage FLi to be a fast action rod. I took a trip to the Orvis store which is the only place around here that will let you try a...

Hello from Virginia

Howdy from Ruther Glen, VA. After bass fishing for many years with bait caster and spinning rods I decided to try something new. The fact that the lakes are so crowded with pleasure boats, jet skis...

Re: Kayak for fishing

I've been using a Tarpon 120 for two years as a fishing rig and I love it. I've sold my Triton bass boat and now fish only from a kayak on small ponds and rivers. I actually enjoy fishing again now...

I caught a 36" carp on a #6 fly rod with a cricket imitation while fishing from my kayak last year and it was a great battle. It's one of those times I wish someone would have had a video camera...
