Re: HELP in South Carolina!

What about the smaller tributaries of the Davidson? Do they get pressured as much? Also, thanks so much for the invite and I would love to meet up to get a guided tour from a local (always the most...

Re: HELP in South Carolina!

Thanks, MUCH appreciated! You don't have to do too much work, just send me to a creek that you are CERTAIN has some trout in it. I'll have one chance, I just want to make sure I'm at least casting...

Re: I Met Myself Last Night...

My brother and I have set out on the same sort of journey; to wade every riffle and bend of the Ausable that can be waded. We got ourselves in a little trouble of sorts last April on a far south...

Re: HELP in South Carolina!

Yes, I've heard about your rain! I spoke with my grandfather yesterday and he can't remember a more precipitous year since he retired and moved there in '84. I'm much more interested in the wild...

Re: looking to buy a used 4wt

I have a MINT ZXL 8'6" that I would trade for that San Miguel! And I mean MINT! IMO, this is the best of the ZXL lineup. I've fished the 7' 3 wt, the 9' 4 wt, 9' 5 wt, and the 8' 4 wt. The 8'6"...

HELP in South Carolina!

I'll be visiting my Grandparents in South Carolina for a week and like every good vacation, it wouldn't be complete unless I did my best to find a trout! Is there any trout fishing within an hour or...

Re: looking to buy a used 4wt

Absolutely! 8' 4wt is my all time favorite and what I consider to be the "Eastern US" all purpose trout rod. 9' 5 wt is too much on MOST places that I've fished east of the Mississippi. Maybe I'm...

Re: I Met Myself Last Night...

I was referred to Terry by our local fly shop owner down here in Rootstown OH for some information regarding my first trip to the UP. Terry was an invaluable source of information as we took our...

Re: I Met Myself Last Night...

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread as a journal of sorts, seeing that I just came across it today and began reading from beginning to end. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well and that...

Re: looking to buy a used 4wt

Aggie, is that 20"+? I landed a 19" rainbow in a swift current on a 7'3wt but it was not the weapon of choice, that's all I'm saying. It is very taxing on the anglers skills, and the fish to be...

Re: looking to buy a used 4wt

Just my opinion, but I'd sell the San Miguel and buy yourself a new Sage or Scott!!!! Those reels are VERY pricey these days. I've seen a few on the auction site go from $350-$500. But no one...

Re: Bluegills are pure joy on a fly rod!

I've just recently taken up bluegill fishing on my fly gear. In a way it's admitting defeat for me but I'm learning to enjoy it. I'd much rather I had the time to chase brookies or browns but I'll...

My best "single" piece of advice:

Remember that this is not a "single piece of advice" endeavour!

But without trying to be funny it would this; be prepared for a couple of years of...

Re: 4 pc VS. 2pc fly rods.

Try a 6mi hike in with a camping pack...the two piece is more than a "concieved" inconvenience. My 7' 3pc doesn't even fit where I want it to.

Orvis Brass Spotting Scope, anyone seen one?

I saw what looks to be a vintage Orvis Brass spotting scope at a local pawn shop. It is a straight line telescoping scope with a brass tripod; when it's collapsed its about 6" or so. Has anyone...

Re: Just got a new combo, did i get screwed?

Re: 4 pc VS. 2pc fly rods.

I'm currently taking donations for a Tacoma 4x4 doublecab with the TRD trim package! Until they all roll in I'm sticking with the Yaris and the 4pc rods!

Re: 4 pc VS. 2pc fly rods.

Even if 2 pc is better, MOST of us will never know the difference! From what I understand they are so close in comparison these days that only the best and most discerning casters will know the...

Re: Just got a new combo, did i get screwed?

Ross makes great reels, and I havn't heard too many complaints about any model that they make. There are several members that use these CLA's in large sizes and they all swear by them. The BVK is...

I've had PLENTY of good days in the rain! So long as it's not downpouring I keep fishing and catching just like normal...I guess the fish don't know when it's raining. Looks like a nice day out,...
