Re: lifetime warranty rods / outfits?

I'd have to second LLBean. I had a Streamlight II that was well taken care of. I took it out once and the tip broke off. Brought it into the local store and they handed me a new rod. Same goes for...

Re: Lead tape

I think the stuff from golf shops is too thick. What I've done is purchased the the normal lead spools and then used a small jewelers hammer to flatten the lead as needed.

I'm a member of the TU Madison County New York Chapter 680. I found that regardless of what the National TU has done, our local chapter is instrumental in conservation and stream preservation in our...

Borax Question

How long do you leave a bird hide coated with Borax before the feathers are ready to be used? I applied Borax about 3 weeks ago and don't know if they are ready to be thrown in the freezer to kill...

Re: Drying motor question.

I went through what your going through now back in December. I purchased the motor off of ebay (went with a 10 RPM) and built the rod wrapper from scrap wood using a plan I saw on another forum....

Re: Tappered leg fleece pants with pockets?

Hmm, I guess the Cabela's pants I got were an older style with only the back zippered pocket. I'm glad you found what you wanted.

Re: Tappered leg fleece pants with pockets?

This is what I got from Cabela's. There is a single pocket in the back. That was the best I could find.

Cabela's Fleece Pants...

Re: Recommended Fly Line for a Slow/Moderate Slow Rod

Well I'm thinking it was "soft" because I was casting a 5wt line on a rod suited for a 3 WT line . So I decided to test all of my rods. In order of ERN, I have a 7'6" 5WT with an ERN of 3.5, a...

Re: Recommended Fly Line for a Slow/Moderate Slow Rod

So the ERN came out to 3.5. So even though this is "supposed" to be a 5 wt, should I be lining it with a 4 wt line?

Re: Recommended Fly Line for a Slow/Moderate Slow Rod

The rods already built and I've been casting it with the 5wt line I use on another rod, that's how I can tell it is soft (as well as had others give me their opinions :) )

Recommended Fly Line for a Slow/Moderate Slow Rod

I built my first rod over Christmas. It was a 7'6" 5wt no-name blank and I didn't know or think to check the action of the blank before I purchased it. So now I'm stuck with trying to determine what...

Re: Looking for Broken Rod Blanks/Pieces

I used Flexcoat CP and applied 2 coats. Next time I'll make sure I let it soak in better.

I wanted to incorporate something into the rod that said "me" so what else would an old retired Navy...

Re: Looking for Broken Rod Blanks/Pieces

Appreciate the suggestions. I used an alcohol lamp to remove any bubbles and thin the finish, so I'm cool with that.

The first issue is that because the length of the decal I was not able to get...

Re: Looking for Broken Rod Blanks/Pieces

Rip Tide,
I know I could do it over, but it's not bad enough that I want to chance damaging the blank (since the epoxy has already been applied). The biggest issue is that I added a decal (clear...

Looking for Broken Rod Blanks/Pieces

I just built my first rod and there are some things I wish I had done better in the wrapping and finishing. I don't want to buy a new blank for practicing, so I was wondering if anyone had some...

Re: Wading boots Sizing question

If you're planning on fishing cold water, consider bringing thick socks to wear when you try on the boots. I purchased sz 10 SIMMS boots and find that my toes are cramped when I am up on the Salmon...

Re: Local Fly Shop or Buy Online?

I guess I'm lucky. I have 2 shops within 15 min of me (not including an LLBean outlet store) and another 5 to 10 within 40. Having said that, I do shop around for price. If Cabela's is having a good...

Re: Grey's GS 10 8wt Opinions Wanted

I put the deal together. It wasn't something that the shop advertised. I've been going there for many years, so he's giving me a discount.

Re: Grey's GS 10 8wt Opinions Wanted

I think so. Rod, reel, line, backing, spooled for $275 + tax. I figure it is about $35 to $40 under retail.

Grey's GS 10 8wt Opinions Wanted

I'm thinking of getting a Grey's GS 10 8wt with a Echo Ion 8/10 reel lined with Wulff Ambush TT for use up here in Central NY and the Lake Ontario tribs. For those of you who have used this rod, what...

Re: C-Clamp or Pedestal

For what it is worth, I don't think there is any one right answer. It depends upon how you are going to use the vise (i.e. type of tying and where you want the vise placed). For me, I like a nice...
