Re: Age of folks on the forum

59. Got interested in fishing 5 years ago, and decided fly fishing looked challenging enough to keep me interested for a long time. So far, looks like a great decision.

Re: Graywolf custom rods?

I have two rods from Shane. Both are fantastic builds and great rods. My wife had him build me a 7' 3wt Ijuin Yomogi with a stacked bamboo seat. As she puts it "It's #$%^ beautiful"

I also have...

Re: Wading Shoes

VTD

I've ordered a bag of the kold kutter studs to stick in my wet wading boots. From the reviews I've read, I think they'll do the job.

Re: Wading Shoes

Thanks for the help. I think I'd rather be safe than sorry (falling hurts too much--or so, I've heard :) ) so I'm going to stud up my wet wading shoes.

Wading Shoes

My wife and I are planning a trip to Vermont, NH and Maine next summer. This is not primarily a fishing trip, but I'm bringing some rods and hope to do some small stream fishing. One question I have...

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

Location doesn't matter; bourbon is legally defined by it's corn content (minimum of 51%) and aging process (new, burnt, american white oak barrels).

Re: Buy JUST a rod sock???

I've bought 5 or 6 socks from here. All have been very well made. My only (very, very minor) complaint is that I think the ties are too long. But I solve that problem by trimming them down to the...

Re: Fiberglass and Trout

I currently have 5 glass rods and one graphite (which I haven't used in 2 years). I use glass for trout, bass, panfish. I, personally, find glass suits my natural casting stroke better than most...

Re: Who has good hook prices?

I like J. Stockard house-brand hooks (made in S. Korea). I've found them to be sharp, well made and a decent price. They do run a few sales during the year.

Re: Parts for Daiwa SF 706 Fly Reel?

Tom

I, too, love these reels. I do have the SA (456) version that I dropped and broke the foot off. The outside lever on it looks the same as on my Daiwa 706 reels. Send me a pm with your address...

Re: What reel on a fiberglass rod?

I love both my 375 and my 373. The 375 gets used on my Fenwick FF75 (7 1/2' 5wt); the 373 gets used on my Ijuin Yomogi 7" 3wt. These are great looking, simple little reels.

Re: Fiberglass fly rods?

If you decide custom, take a look at the Ijuin Yomogi (7' 3wt or 7'6" 4wt--I might have the length wrong on the 4wt).

I have the 7' 3wt built up by Shane Gray (Graywolf Rods). It was a birthday...

Re: Looking to get into some new glass

I've got a 7' 3 piece Yomogi (built by Shane Gray). The price might be above your price point at this point, but this is a great rod. It's slower than the Kabuto and just seems to cast itself. Rig it...

Re: New to Fly Fishing; What Would You Do If You Had A Do Over?

[QUOTE=Rip Tide;754508]I don't normally like to stick my nose in when talk turns to what gear to buy.
Personally I don't feel that it makes a whole lot of difference.
The rod that I've been using...

Re: How to use a steel

If you're trying to maintain the edge between sharpenings, try using a strop. I just glued a piece of hard leather to a piece of maple. "Color" the leather with chromium dioxide (I might have this...

Re: Kabuto Glass rods

If you're not completely wedded to a Kabuto, take a look at the Ijuin Yomogi. I have a 7' 3wt built out by Shane Gray (Graywolf Rods out of MI). My wife bought it for my birthday last October. I got...

Re: How Are You Combating Cabin Fever??

Two suggestions: Rowan Creek. One of my favorite bourbons--very smooth. Second, Old Grand-Dad 114. This is an inexpensive bourbon with some great flavour. I normally drink my whiskey neat, but the...

I do something somewhat similar. I use a piece of paracord with a stopper (in this case, the remains of a pull with a hole drilled through it from a cabinet job) tied to one end to keep the spools on...

Re: Getting It Down, Sinking The Fly;

+1. After reading an earlier post on this topic (I think it was last winter), I made up a number of leadcore (Cortland LC13) sections as described by Ard. I used them (2' segments mostly) this summer...

Re: My built in fire alarms are chuping. WHY??

This happened last month with our hard-wired detectors. As others have mentioned, there is a back-up battery in each detector; one or more needs to be replaced.

My question is why inanimate...
