Re: Show us Your Photography

A few from last week. Dad and I had a great time at South Padre Island. We stayed on the Laguna Madre side of the island, and that's where we fished. I'm ready to go back. The tarpon showed up...

Re: Fishing with a DSLR

I keep it in a backpack. I usually find a place to sit the backpack down on the bank while I'm fishing. Just gotta remember to pick it up before moving upstream.

I've had a Traveler for years, and I've yet to want a different vice.

Re: Help! Snapping leader lines and losing flies

Never use old leader or tippet material. It gets brittle and loses its strength, no matter what knot you tie. Always throw away old line and buy fresh stuff at least once a year.

Arrow St. Croix Legend Ultra 9' 12wt 3pc blank

I bought this to build for a tarpon trip this fall, but I've not had time to build it up. I'm gonna just buy a rod, so this blank is for sale. There are a few minor marks on the blank that I didn't...

Re: A little double haul help. Please?

If you overpower the rod, which a haul can contribute to if you're not careful, the tip flexes a bunch and the tip ends up traveling in a concave path which causes wind knots. Try to drive the rod...

Re: Lessons learned: Do not practice casting in the backyard

Ard nailed it. Work on proper timing to avoid popping the line, and ALWAYS keep a leader on the line. A fake fly piece of yarn or something is OK, but you can live without it. Just don't cast...

Re: Show us Your Photography

The sand in that area shifts around a LOT. It probably didn't take as long as you'd think to bury that tractor.

Here's a shot I took walking back to my truck after the hunt (since we're here to...

Re: want to start tying need some guidance!

I have a Renzetti Traveler. I have the midge jaws for it too, which make tying #18 and smaller flies easier. It's a GREAT vice. I tie really large bass flies on it as well.

Feather Craft is...

Re: Show us Your Photography

Cool stuff.

I ran across this tractor last fall while deer hunting near Shamrock, TX. It has been parked for a while, apparently.

Re: Show us Your Photography

Thanks, y'all. Fireworks shots are fun. I actually like the photos better than video or live. The light trails you get in a photo are cool.

Re: Fly/Popper retriever pole?

I usually have an 8' or 9' fly removal pole in my hand whenever I'm fishing. I just strip line all the way up to the fly and use my rod to poke it loose.

Re: why cant i cast far!!!!

When you learn to feel the tug of the loop straightening out, you can cast in the dark just as easily as the daylight. :)

Re: why cant i cast far!!!!

Every new caster has trouble with timing. I don't know if this is your problem or not, but the timing problem I'm talking about will cause a cast to break down at 20-30'.

During a cast, your...

Re: Tying Buggers

Love the peacock bugger too. Anytime you can put peacock herl on a fly, it's a good thing.

I like a little crystal flash in the tail. Biggest key for me is weight. I like a bead head or a cone...

Re: Am I the only one that can't fish a dry fly?

What tippet are you using? Are the fish leader-shy? Try 5X flourocarbon. Make sure it's new and fresh.

Drag-free drifts are usually critical.

Don't try to set the hook to quickly. Let...
