Re: If you had the $$$

I think it depends on where you're fishing. Small/clear stream, the superfine would be perfect. Larger stream/river go with the Helios

Re: Tippet Ring Knot

a little off topic but I have to ask. Is there a benefit of the tippet ring over a loop-loop connection between tippet and leader?

Re: Set-Up For Bluegills

My 'gill set up is the same as my high mountain Sierras set up. Custom 7'6" 1wt full flex rod with Orvis Battenkill BBS reel with the RIO Trout LT DT line.

Bluegills have small mouths and respond...

Re: Why No Fly Fishing Shows??

The one thing I hate more about the fishing shows is that they are all fish porn. There is no substance, no education, no "here is how you do this" or "try this". Its all catch all the time

Re: Ceramic one foot guides

don't forget you have to weigh the extra thread to wrap the second foot on the snake guide. Also, every place you wrap with thread, you loose flexibility. Its not much but it is noticeable if you...

Re: Never under estimate the power of the copper john!

There is a small pond by me that is very heavily fished. I would be lucky to get 1 on a popper or bugger in a day. I switched over to a small unweighted brown nymph (pheasant tails/hares ear/birds...

Re: Teaching children to fly fish

Eagle Claw makes some really inexpensive rods to start using. They are not great, but the price can't be beat. Think fiberglass, graphite can get bruised when its banged on things. Glass is much more...

Re: Is it still fly fishing if you do it with a spinning reel

Wow, wasn't expecting an answer like that.

My question was addressed to a few posts in this thread, not necessarily the OP. I don't care if its just "spin fisherman" who think we are snots, the...

Re: Is it still fly fishing if you do it with a spinning reel

I want to ask everyone in this thread, why it matters if it's fly fishing or not (ignoring the fly fishing only waters, of course)? If it gets you out of the house and into God's country, who cares...

Re: Using heavier line question

YES!!!! 100% right. I had a 12' 6x leader and 3' of 7x tippet on my 1wt for dry flying a tiny spring creek I fished last week. Last night I hit the local bluegill pond and tied on a tiny weighted...

Re: Say wot??? $89.95?

Couldn't agree more. Bought the wife an Orvis Access 5wt set with the Orvis line. It was garbage. Replaced it with the Rio Perception and the wife has never looked back

Re: A weird dream

Anglers Roost has quite a few dirt cheap rods in quite a few different lengths that might work for you. They aren't the best quality, my 12' single hand 3wt is a bit heavy, but for the price its...

Re: Video of the Colorado Division of Wildlife air dropping Cutthroats

hitting water from a big height is bad news. like hitting a wall. However, if the surface tension of the water is broken, its much softer. The water hitting the lake surface as the fish do probably...

Re: NFO Drifter

I am always nervous about inflatables because I can envision a bad cast into the wind causing a hook up with the side of the boat. How do you go about preventing this from happening?
