I just use an old ski pole with a bunch of duct tape wrapper around the tip (sound damper). I actually found the ski pole during the spring runoff riverside so the only thing I paid for was the duct...

Simms makes the best waders in my opinion. One of the things that makes it worth paying a lot for waders is the great warranty. Now is 5years a long time for a pair of boots before they wear out?...

I wear my Simms waders duck hunting they are better then any other wader. I just buy a pair of boots with rubber bottom. Ducks don't know till it's too late!

From your middle nymph leave 12" extra when tying your clinch knot then just add your bottom fly. Less knots = less problems.

Haven't tried those rods either but I think a #6 weight might give you more options. A #6 will cast small flies with ease but when nymphing like you described I like a stiffer rod in the tip section...

Last time I went to YNP fished the Lamar River right next to the road. People were stopping cars and waiting to see wolf packs near sunset. You might be able to fish a little longer maybe the evening...

I would take him to Henry's Lake in Idaho. You can both fish for trophy trout any way you like! It's a great place to wet a line and lots of camping and other fishing lakes and rivers close by!
