Re: pike and musky leaders

I run a 9 foot furled leader that ends in a titanium ring, then run about 3 feet of 30-40 # fluorocarbon. I don't like the way wire robs action from my flies or sinks them much faster. I may loose a...

Re: Foam head pike flies

I am sponsored by Temple Forks so those are the only rods I use. I have an Axiom and a TiCRx, both are eight weights. I use a 10 weight pike taper and a 300 grain full sink line. The larger weight...

Re: Foam head pike flies

Dan-
At some point we will fish together.

The heads are 1mm or 2mmm craft foam cut with a guitar pic maker. It is like a stapler, but cuts the heads all identical. I have also been using LOCO...

Re: Furled or mono leaders?

Specifically speaking of throwing large (10") flies I use nothing but furled to lay out the fly nicer since they are stiffer than most single starnd leaders. I think it makes a difference on the...

Re: Touchy subject:Barbless or barbed

Last year my buddy had to go to the emergency room and have a barbed hook cut from his lower eye lid. A barbless hook could've saved him $2500 and we would have fished the rest of the day.

Re: pike/warmwater streamer swap 2010?!

I only use Gamakatsu hooks. I have gone exclusively to 2/0 barbless recently. Had a buddy take a hook just below his eye last fall. If it had been barbless we would have pulled it out and continued...

Re: Ross Flystik, 8 vs. 10-weight?

i will second that, i use a fast taper 8 with a 9 weight pike taper and i throw 10 inch flys all day. The ten will only weigh a little more, but is too big for my low teen lb sized fish.

Re: Tube Flies....

I have used tube flies on and off for years. All my poppers are tube flies, mostly because I use round high density foam and the tubes slide into a drilled hole very easily. I like them on streamers...

The white hair on the bottom and the blue on the top is dyed calf hair. The long body material is peglusi fiber.

The Yak hair is used in the center of the fly as a replacement of peglusi fiber.

Re: MONSTER pike flies

Tie a chunk of white hair to the hook. This is the most important step. This chunk of hair must be solid to the hook or the fly will try to spin on the hook shaft. Trim off excess after each step. Do...

Re: Crawfish Fly

Looks pretty good. I would reverse the fly though, because the claws should be in the air if resting on the bottom not the tail. If you tie a chunk of foam opposite the dumbell eyes, under the...
