Re: Kelly Creek (Idaho)

Mine is 23' and I do not have any problems, but I go over French Mtn road, or early in the year we will go through Headquarters. We have our favorite spots and usually find them open. Also some...

Re: Kelly Creek (Idaho)

It is my home water and I usually spend several weeks up there with my trailer. I was up there for three weeks in June and all roads were fine at that time. I come in over French mtn from Pierce. ...

Re: September Steelhead

Give Poppy at the Red Shed a buzz and talk to him. He should be able to take care of you and answer any questions you might have about the Clearwater / Snake / Ronde. His web page also has a list...

Re: Favorite line clippers?

Same here. I stopped using zingers four or five years ago. I keep my nippers and a very small folding multitool on a lanyard around my neck. Started doing it fishing for steelhead when I do not...

Re: is Simms insane?

Couldn't agree more. Most of my clothing for fishing is Simms or Patagonia. It works and lasts. When things get lousy out, cold and rain or snow, I use a Patagonia SST jacket. I see they are now...

Re: Learn to sew!

I use the filson guide vest for most of my trout fishing. Have an old mesh vest for when it gets really hot out. Two chestpacks that I do not like bought for some spring creeks when I only carry a...

Re: Filson Vests

My filson guide vest is my primary vest for most of my fishing. Not much to add to what has already been said; typical filson, bullet-proof and will last years. It can get warm when it gets really...

Re: Labeling Lines

I am as anal as you can get with my fly gear, and have Excel inventories of all of my fly tying materials and flys, but for lines I just use labeled zip locks that each line goes in, and then one of...

Re: A really offensive word

We are hearing it too much in the PNW these days, but for another sport. "Is Russell Wilson......" but that argument is for another forum at another time.

Re: No closures in Idaho

There is a more complete article in today's Lewiston Tribune, although it may take a subscription. Idaho officials think fish can stand the heat - The Lewiston Tribune: Outdoors...

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

This is all very funny and I think we can take ourselves a little too seriously. I had to laugh out loud at the quote from the guy on the other forum that I posted because I was talking to a rod rep...

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

There is an interesting response to this article on the WFF from someone who works in the rod industry at one of the most respected companies in the PNW. Not sure if I am allowed to post links or...

Re: Deciding on a new fly line

I was using Gold for my main 4 and 5 wts but tried the super dri elite lines this year and never looked back. Fantastic lines. True to weight.

Re: Camper/Trailer Stories....

There is a lot that goes into these decisions. For us, camping is the only option for our favorite waters. We also have two labs and a husky so we often camp whenever hotels are an option. Just to...

Re: Camper/Trailer Stories....

We are very conservative with fresh water and have never ran out. We take a couple of flats of bottled water for drinking during the day. We also use paper plates and such so the only thing we wash...

Re: Camper/Trailer Stories....

To me it is the only way to go. I do the same thing you do. My spouse has a 3 day weekend so she comes up for that time, then leaves me up there to fish the rest of the time.

Re: Camper/Trailer Stories....

Here we are camped on a gravel bar on a river in N.ID. The truck and trailer have many "Rocky Mountain pinstripes" from scratches from branches on narrow roads. This was a 10day trip with no...

Re: Camper/Trailer Stories....

I fought any kind of trailer or camper for years. I am a biologist so in my younger years would spend weeks at a time living out of a tent or the back of my truck doing field work, and if not...

Re: Aluminum Pliers?

I got the Abel plier - knife combo a few years ago as a gift. I pull the pliers out for steelhead in the fall and winter, but do not use them that often. I pinch my barbs on the vise and pulling a...

Re: Neurotic Dog and fireworks.

It does not bother our two labs as they grew up training with blank and gun fire, but the poor husky has a rough time. My spouse went to the vet this year and got alprazolam for her and it seems to...

I hope they do the same for N. Idaho very soon. Water levels and temps are getting very bad.

Re: Clearwater N.F. Route/Road Question?

The route you describe is one the easiest, except just hit French Mtn Rd right out of Pierce and skip Shanghai. You can also go via headquarters, but it is a long drive up the river if you are...
