Re: Can you fish Tenkara style without a traditional Tenkara rod?

I think you know the answer, Rod; yes, of course you can do it by knotting a mono line to the tip top and leaving your reel at home. As far as calling it Tenkara ... I don't think you should do that!...

Mystic Reaper

I went back home to visit my family last week and see my brother before he moves to Grand Cayman Island for work (he is not a banker). He's been fly fishing for some years but isn't consumed like...

Re: I prefer 2pc rods....... Am I a dinosaur?

I don't think I'm that old, but all of my rods are two piece except one. And that one is a three piece! I just haven't bought a new rod in dozen years, and even then I was buying two piece blanks to...

Re: The Heat is on - "hoot owl" Restrictions - MT

I drove from Billings back home on Sunday and noticed a lot of people - boats, SUPs, tubers - on the Yellowstone around Big Timber. It was surprising to me.

Re: Tippet Ring Knot

I agree with my Montana neighbor. If you build leaders, the tiny rings are quite practical. I have numerous leader butt/taper sections I've built that end with a ring. Too many actually, because I...

Re: Challenge poll

Wow Dustin, that's a serious purchase! Glad you came back and revived this thread. Now, I reckon with that new camera someone might be trying to revive that 52 week - or once a month or whatever it...

Re: Missoula and Glacier area

The canyon is almost all city's, and good sized. You don't need to hike into the Bob. The N Fork Blackfoot is a popular trailhead and good place to hike and fish. But I'd leave the 1wt in the car.

Re: Missoula and Glacier area

The upper Blackfoot - what I consider the river from Lincoln down to about Russell Gates - is a nice easy river. From Lincoln to about Ovando the river is a slow, meandering stream through woods and...

Re: Montanna stream access

Is this at the Victor Crossing bridge or are you talking about the Tucker East canals? The fence up to the bridge at the river is one of those bullsh@t deals, simply to deter the tourists and...

Re: Montanna stream access

Let me be clear that I do not condone the barriers, which a simply a tactic to deter fisherman. And it works. But they get away with it by claiming it is for livestock. There are not enough people...

Re: Help With Parachute Adams Please

I was thinking of moose mane, not body. It's to thick for small parachutes, but I like it for large dries.

Re: Help With Parachute Adams Please

I haven't had a patch of moose hair in a while, I used to love it for tails. Thanks for the reminder!

Also, I use micro fibbetts almost exclusively, otherwise the best feathers I've found are coq...

Re: Montanna stream access

Thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that is was an issue of origination also, as donkey wrote in his first post. I was sure I read that somewhere official, but I do remember...

Re: Help With Parachute Adams Please

My close up focus just starting to go about a year ago. I've had perfect vision my entire life. I went to the eye doc for the first time ever, he examined my eyes and told me that I still have...

Re: Durable rod

Got it. No matter what the brand or how much it cost, if the rod sections are in a sock and that inside a tube, it will be much safer. If you don't have that, just wrap the rod in an old sheet and...

Re: Missoula and Glacier area

Hey Mo, welcome to the forum.

Missoula area fishing is going to be slim pickin's at the end of the month. Flows are pathetic on all the major rivers, temps were beginning to become an issue up...

Re: Help With Parachute Adams Please

I agree with the consensus; shorten the post and use less material in the future. Fortunately you have poly posts so you can just cut them short and leave them stout for use as emergers as Silver...

Re: Durable rod

Opus, how/why would you break a rod? Fly rods are very durable when used for fishing proper. And most all come with a rod tube to store them in. A four piece rod in a tube will fit behind the seat...

Re: HMH Spartan Vise at Cabela's

That is a screaming good deal. The Spartan is a great, no frills vise. It will last forever and as Duker said, awesome customer service.

Re: A Griz human encounter that went bad....

That's a nice drive...I've always considered that to be one of the best back road passes I've been on, I mean width and condition! How big are the falls? We're thinking about going up there on the...

Re: A Griz human encounter that went bad....

I hope everyone gets a little time in a wild place this weekend (even if that's just a beach with too many rowdy teenagers). I just came in from a morning of fishing, walking through grass and brush...

Re: A Griz human encounter that went bad....

I'm not sure what this story has to do with re-introduction of wolves.

The grizzly bears in the Glacier ecosystem were not re-introduced. They are some of the last grizzlies left that were not...
