Re: Old bamboo rod,Any conditioner suggestion?

I fished boo for years and never heard the turpentine suggestion..not saying it won't work but personally I wouldn't try it. I typically try to minimize chemicals on my bamboo.

If you don't want...

Re: Wright & McGill bamboo rod - what line?

Most of the W/M 9 ' boo should fish a DT6 nicely....but it depends on the weight of the rod...Do you have the original tube? if so it should tell you the weight...If it is 4/34 oz - it should be a 5...

Re: bought a bamboo rod to try

Welcome to the Boo world...if youa are not careful you will get hooked. Bamboo typically was sold with two tips...to minimize the tip getting a set. Most tips will be the same ...although some boo...

Re: Question on putting a loop onto a fly line

I wrap my loop with fly tying thread and then rub a bit of Knot sealer. It's never failed me. I've not tried using mono to wrap the loop. I would be worried the mono cutting into the line and it...

Re: good fly line for a 8 1/2 foot long bamboo fly rod

It depends on what the rod was built for. My 8.5 Granger is a DT5F. My 8.5 Pillipson is a DT6F. I typically use Cortland Peach DT's or Hook and Hackle. but I've been using Cortland Sylk on a 7.5...

Re: Bamboo Rod Makers?

I prefer Boo. I fish primarily Grangers and Phillipsons from the late 30's and 40's. The feel is so much better than graphite IMHO.

Re: Cabela's Stowaway 5 piece

My concern would be with stronger/bigger fish like redfish...would a 5 piece rod fail more often than a 2 or 4 piece. In other words, more stress points (the ferruls) to fail or loosen. I have no...

Re: Marryat reel question...

I've not seen one like this before. If I was to guess, and that is all it would be, is to remove the plate and reverse the gear. I think if you call the company and ask for the aprts and repair...

Re: Marryat reel question...

I take it this is one of Marryat older reels since you got it at a garage sale. I would start with Marryat.com and see if they can answer your question for you. If they can't help,

I've converted...

KS - I've got a larger arbor that I use on my Sage when I'm in a drift boat. Never had much problem with coiling, of course when I learned to fish way back when, I was taught to stretch my line out...

Re: my first reel

I've never used a Lamson, but have used the Battenkill Bar Stock alot and love the reel. It is very light so it matches nicely with a light weight rod. I've never had a problem with the drag and...

Re: Newbie Buying a New Rod

I would echo what Rip Tide said about Hook and Hackle. I've never cast the rod they have for under $50...but all of there stuff is quality...so for the price you can't go wrong. Your medalist might...

Re: Sage Launch

If you like Orvis reels...put a BBS IV on the Launch. I would recommend the IV over the III as it will balance the rod better. I have the same 6wt Launch that I use for drift boats, big water with...

Re: Hill Country Summer

By the way Cliff...If you like Steve Earle you've got to pick up Live at the Bluebird Cafe - Steve, Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt together...Don't get much better for Texas boys than that!!!!!!!

I fish Bamboo about 80% of the time. I like the way you can feel the cast with bamboo and just love the look of bamboo. Wth that said, there is a wide range of bamboo rods. if you lucked out and...
