Re: 2 more steel for me!

Yup - Yo-Yo for sure. The only fish in your parts (or mine, for that matter) that have gums that white. Pretty nice one, too, I might add.

Vancouver Island Spring/Summer Photo Round-up.

With the passing of the season, I thought I'd post a few photos.

Spring

As do most of us - I look forward to the Spring season after a winter of swinging the 8 weight for Steelies in big water....

Re: Lubing reels & Line care

I find the older I get, the more attached I get to my favored fishin' implements, and consequently put in a little maintenance time to ensure they are with me for some years to come.
I should point...

Re: Do you tell?

Not today, not tomorrow, not next year. Not under interrogation at GitMo, not under threat of death. Not to your wife, girlfriend, best friend, or brother in law.

Gems are tough to come by, in...

Re: 2 wt reel reccomendations please

I concur with the comments about drag not being a huge factor in the choice of reels for a two weight.
I use an Okuma SLV 2/3 on my Legend Ultra 2wt and find it more than adequate - and came in at...

Re: 4 wt rod

I fish Legend Ultras in 2, 3 and 5 weight. The two and three weights fill my dry line needs nicely. They are at the high end of the "medium-fast" scale, and the 2 wt really likes to be overlined...

Re: Lots of Gear

I think you'll get as many different opinions as posters, on the topic of preferred gear - so heres my two cents!

I fish Sea Run Cutthroat and Steelies through the winter, here on Vancouver Island...

Re: Touchy subject:Barbless or barbed

Pinched barbs for me - mostly because I rarely see manufactured barbless for tyeing in my local shops.

In BC, its strictly barbless in rivers and streams and in all tidal waters (the ocean).

Re: Eat that fish, or release it?

I haven't intentionally killed a sport caught fish in 15 or so years. For myself, the release is as much a part of the experience as the hook set. I have to admit that my years as a Salmon fishing...

Re: Recomendations for a 10' 4w?

Thanks for that, Frank.

I concur - That all makes absolute sense. I like fishing a 4w and will probably stick with one. I hear those Dan Craft FTs are pretty fast, perhaps I should just build...

Re: Which lines?

Hey Ken,

Now thats a question that torments us all! I gave up trying to limit myself, bought a cassette reel and load up my Willy J chest pack - ha ha!

Ok, if I had to limit myself to three -...

Re: Recomendations for a 10' 4w?

I apologise for being obscure - its such a standard form of fishing here in BC, I guess I assumed it was done elsewhere, as well.

You hit it with lake fishing. We get some pretty unbelievable...

Re: Recomendations for a 10' 4w?

Yeah, I've heard pretty good things about the Helios in terms of featherweight lightness. Unfortunately, it's price tag puts it quite a ways out of my league - ha ha!

I was kinda thinking along...

Recomendations for a 10' 4w?

With the beginning of our Chironomid fishing season, I've been thinking about up-gunning my Chironomid stick.

I am generally fishing 15'-25' leaders, with anywhere from 6' to all 25' under an...

Re: For Rivers- Pontoon or Tube?

I guess I don't know what the Madison looks like, as far as it's riffles and runs go - but you couldn't pay me to run a river of any consequence in a tin still water boat, and never in a Jon boat. ...

Re: For Rivers- Pontoon or Tube?

Ha ha - for a few years after they came out, they were pulling a couple of drowned anglers a year from my "home river" when they tried to fish down it from tubes. Darwanism at work, I guess. The...

I am lucky enough to...
