Re: Exceeded Expectations - Bauer Rogue 2

They really are nice aren't they? I hate to see that they aren't being made anymore. The RX is replacing them. I wished I could afford to stock up on some more.

Re: Bauer Rogue Reels - Opinions/Reviews

I love my Rogue 4, in fact it is probably my favorite reel. The drag is strong and smooth. The finish is fantastic. It's a shame they aren't more popular. There are no downsides, just a sexy good...

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

I have one hobby, and fly fishing isn't it. I consider fishing more of a lifestyle slash relaxation thing. The money I have spent on gear isn't wasted at all, it provides returns every time I use it...

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

I read this comment a lot and I don't get it. Everybody knows some people will buy them precisely because they are $50. Some will buy them because they are convinced they are the best and it doesn't...

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

If I want an Abel fresh water reel, I'd buy a Creek or another TR. I have dunker my TR many times, no need for a sealed reel there.

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

Don't let the fancy fish finish tempt you. Everyone knows the sexiest Abel's are dressed in black. Seriously though, Abel has without question the best polished black anodized reels on the market. I...

Re: need a backup plan need some help fellas

Destin is awesome. Plenty of things to do and the fishing in and around the area is great. I haven't been there in years so I can't give you any particulars but the wife will love the place. I lived...

Re: Testing out a New Fly to Buy

Every "fly shop" I have ever been in will let you lawn cast all the rods you want. A few will stick one in your hand to take outside with little to no encouragement. Or maybe they just read me as a...

Re: For SCOTT ROD Fans...

Blaspheme. Nothing can replace my S4s's. I guess on the plus side, I now have 2 more "classic" rods.

Re: Wulff Triangle Tapers...

Both my Scott salt set ups use them, an 8wt floater and a 10wt inter. I love the lines, so much so that I will be picking up the 7wt bass line for my Heliply.

Re: Streamer junkies!

I have already greased the skids with the wife for a new 6wt this fall. Gonna pick up my first Sage, a 9' One with the fighting butt.

Re: Issue with larger flys

It is pushing it a bit, you are asking a lot of your set up. Shorten, your leader to about 5-6' and your should be able to turn it over well enough to get it out to fishable ranges.

Re: new to fly fishing need advice on a setup

Hehe, I could have suggested something a bit north of $400. It took a very long time getting them but they were worth the wait. I have nothing against any reel at any price point as long as they...

Re: Vises?

I use a Dyna King Prince. It's one of their out of production fixed head angle models. It's about as sleek and streamlined as a vice can get. It does nothing but hold hooks. Having started out on a...

Re: new to fly fishing need advice on a setup

It really depends on what you see yourself getting into latter. If I were to do it again, I'd pick an 8wt. I started with a 7wt and there were many days in South Texas that were blown out due to the...

Re: redfish fly patterns

I have caught a bunch of Reds in Corpus and Galveston. My go to patterns were very simple, brown and orange bead chained Clousers with gold flash on size 2-4 hooks. I would also tie them weightless...

Re: Does made in USA matter?

The TV and other consumables being made overseas argument to justify overseas fishing stuff doesn't work for me. Those items are expendable, my fly gear is not. Being made stateside most certainly...

Re: St. Croix Imperial vs. Avid

This touched touched home with me. My first rid was an Imperial 9' 5wt. That's the rod I learned how to cast, taught myself. I fished the snot out of that thing. I casted small hair bugs to bass back...

Re: Scott Rods?

Pretty much agree with this although each and every one of mine are beautiful. They don't seem to have that plastic polished look of other brands. Mine are fishing tools that fish very well in real...

Re: Striper setups?

Stripers respect time on the water and little else. Well, that of course has to be the right time on the water and lots of it. I decided a couple of years ago I was going to become an avid linesider....

Re: Looking for opinions on Nautilus NV reel

Hard to say, I have only seen a few examples of the reel up here. I ended up going with the Abels because quite frankly they just feel classier and their function is second to none. I have never felt...
