That's the 578 anti reverse, 577 is just slightly smaller..I need to get four more so I can have 1 of each size drilled to lighten the spools and vent them.

Taping will help in not watching the tip go off into the distance, I tape all my spey and a few switch rods for safety

I don't go below an 8 wt for pike or musky unless I am chasing 24" and smaller. You need the bigger rod to be able to cast big flies. as for leader you don't need wire. put the swivel at the line end...

Callibaetis are a mayfly ! usually found in lakes and slower water. can be a big hatch out west.

All the goldfish species ( koi, goldfish, ) will only grow as large as their environment. keep it a small bowl and they will never get big. Put them in a lake or river and look out they grow large.

Got to remember the wooly bugger was invented back when fast rods were not around !
4' tippet is to long to cast a fly like that, sounds like you are getting a hinge effect.
