Re: Greys rods ?

I also have the 10' 4 wt. Streamflex. By far my favorite trout nymphing rod. Roll casts like a dream and allows me to reach the far seems with ease. If I know I am going to be nymphing all day with...

Re: 2013 Goals...

I want to get my wife out more often, at least twice a month.
I also want to get better at casting bigger rods (7 weights and larger) and bigger flies.

Re: 9'6" rod too long?

I am with Larry.

I have fallen in love with 10 foot rods for nymphing all but the smallest streams. But they are a bit much for some dry fly applications I find.

Re: gear quality ?

I could not agree more.

There may come a time when you find your equipment limiting your ability to make difficult casts or to play a fish on light tippets. Or, it might be heavy and you find...

Re: Arkansas River

It sounds to me like you were using a mercury RS2. Pat Dorsey began fishing a variety of flies with small, clear beads on the heads a number of years ago in Cheesman Canyon. I use mercury midges the...

Re: Gill Trail Cheesman Canyon

It is approximately three miles or so from the time you access the river until you hit the dam. It can be a sketchy hike once the snow flies because the sun doesn't hit the canyon much at all. There...

Re: Wind River/ Upper Bighorn Advice

Thanks, Larry.

We have two plans depending on the weather.

1. Fish the Bighorn above Yellowtail in Thermopolis and then from Fort Smith all the way down toward Xavier in four days. The entire...

Wind River/ Upper Bighorn Advice

Has anybody ever fished the Wind River Canyon through Thermopolis during late March? I have some time off and was interested in fishing this section from a drift boat. I know the weather in the...

Re: Behind Aspen Grove Mall

I have fished there a number of times. It used to have some really nice fish in it just a few years ago, but at the current flows (or lack thereof), I haven't seen any fish for the past year. It got...

Re: South Platte River Deckers Report

Sorry to sound so doom and gloom. I just really miss the way that river fished back in the day. I sincerely hope it does come back to 100%. And maybe I just had a few run ins with more than my share...

Re: South Platte River Deckers Report

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I have encountered more rude fishermen in that stretch than any other in Colorado (although I hear the Taylor can get pretty bad as well). And I don't mean just...

South Platte River Deckers Report

Got out for a quick half day on Saturday. Boy, was it cold at 8 a.m. I was not mentally prepared for dealing with winter-like conditions and struggled the first half hour just to tie on flies, manage...

Re: Bighorn River Report

You know it. She pretends to not know what she's doing when it's convenient, but she outfishes most of my friends. Truth is, it's great to share these experiences with her and I am happy to be her...

Re: What do you need to fish?

I carry as much as I possibly can because I hate being without something when the situation arises. I carry a Fishpond guide pack stuffed pretty full. However, I like to wear as little as possible....

Bighorn River Report

I took my wife up to Fort Smith last week for her first trip to the Bighorn. She got tired of me coming home with stories of 7500 fish per mile and 16-inch average fish.

When I go with my...

Re: Some basic retrieval questions (I hope I don't get smacked)

This might help you a bit. The first link is about reading water. The second is about "fishing" your fly. They both cover the basics but are pretty helpful. You should also do a few youtube searches...

Re: Looking for 10' #3?

I have a Grey's Streamflex 10' 4 weight. They make a 3 weight. It might be my favorite rod to fish right now.

Re: TFO Where's The Rod Case

Another way to look at it is why do all the other rod companies include a tube and pass the price on to the customer rather than giving the customer the choice of saving money and not getting a tube?...

Arkansas River Report

The middle and lower Arkansas are on fire right now as browns are in prespawn mode. Predominantly nymph fishing with baetis and small stoneflies the dominant menu item. However, streamers in the gray...

Re: Compliments to TFO service!!

I will chime in as well. The top two cork rings separated on my older TFO Professional 6 wt. I sent it in, and they sent me a brand new Professional II 6 wt. rod. I was shocked and ecstatic at the...

Re: Favorite Strike Indicator

I use a thingamabobber almost exclusively. However, if I am fishing really skinny or slow moving water with small flies, I use Palsa pinch on indicators. They are very sensitive and do not harm your...

Re: An Ethics Question

I am far too lazy to be doing yard work while I fish.

Situational, like others.
