Re: Soft Tip - Crisp Tip

Yes, that would be/have been my take on it Rip , but I am finding some of my prior principles/perceptions no longer apply as they were based on blank technology from the late 80's (RPL/HLS era). It...

Re: Soft Tip - Crisp Tip

So , can I be safe in saying you find a direct relation between the sensitivity/communication of the rod/line and the rods physical weight ? This would be something I can understand. I have read many...

I spotted a Galvan Torque here and it is on its way from Golfnfish :)

I am going to keep and eye out for the Gunn for the 5 wt , the last reel I am going to replace with a Allan for my #6/7 ....

Re: Fast Action rods

Ian,

I know we are talking about fast vs moderate, but I guess it is also about casting. Try making a video of yourself casting both , it gives you a lot of feedback about what you are doing and...

Re: Soft Tip - Crisp Tip

Yes this is true , T&T has gone the " un-sanded route " also. I just think it looks like a job not complete. They did it on the ES series also as a cost cutting point. I hardly find it appealing at...

Re: Fast Action rods

I got it , just kidding around. I can throw that with my softer rods (after a lot of practice) and it made it so I can do the whole line on the fast rods. I think it is best to learn on a moderate...

Re: Fast Action rods

This I can agree is a negative side effect of learning on a fast rod , my solution to this is to cross train. Work with a different rod week to week and you will notice and make adjustments. It will...

Re: Fast Action rods

Hi Ian,

There are a couple good current post that relate to this topic. "Fast and stiff" and another if you search "lawn casting" . They are a little off topic but very interesting with good...

Re: Soft Tip - Crisp Tip

This is very interesting and I can see your point. One of the things I find difficult is defining "fast & Stiff" . It did help that I found you (S&S) supported my opinion on the 8'6" radian. I was...

Re: New 4 wt. reel considerations ?

Thanks for chiming in ! I was not up to speed on the reels since I used to just pick up "new old" Teton on E-bay when they were a good deal. My local shops tend to have 1 or the other so I wanted to...

I agree Jastrout, I talked with them at a show in MA and I checked out their reels too(Impressive). I do not have even a hint of reservation about doing business with them. However , if the margin is...

Re: New 4 wt. reel considerations ?

I saw that Rock , I think it might be a good fit for the Horizon II also. Looks like it can take a hit or 2 also . I am thinking the Galvin may be a little light for the T&T rod.

good review on...

Re: New 4 wt. reel considerations ?

I think I will kick up some more $ and take a look at the Galvins & Ross.

I like the Allen reel too . This reel is going to be with me a long time so it makes sense.

The Gunnison has been...

New 4 wt. reel considerations ?

I am looking to replace my Tioga rather than have it serviced and just want to try something new. The reel will be on the Delaware so drag counts. Hoping for the under 200 range but what ever it...
