Re: Adams, PARACHUTE Adams and PARACHUTE BWO

This link is to my local TU site and a tutorial for tying a standard parachute hackle dry fly. The article is by George Kesel, the best fly tyer I've ever met and watched work, and just a class A...

Re: Adams, PARACHUTE Adams and PARACHUTE BWO

Fly guy, I'm not silver but trimming the bottom hackle flat is a good technique. Sometimes patterns will call for cutting a V in the bottom, which I think is wise to do to any mayfly with traditional...

What size are the blanks?

How do you access to all these old blanks? I'll take the XP of your hands if you decide not to use it...

Re: Adams, PARACHUTE Adams and PARACHUTE BWO

I think this is misinformation based on assumptions.

The first assumption is that on fast water you need a Catskill fly because it rides high on the water and will stay afloat better. While the...

Re: Adams, PARACHUTE Adams and PARACHUTE BWO

I like the light wire scud hook too. Its basically a Klinkhammer at that point and can be just the ticket.

Re: Adams, PARACHUTE Adams and PARACHUTE BWO

Parachute is a term used to describe the style of hackle wrapping. As you pointed out, it is when the hackle is tied in an wound so that it is parallel to the body and will rest flat/flush with the...

Re: Who still uses a vest?

Slips, I had a similar issue with the waist pack. Tightening the belt enough to keep it in place made spinning it around a hassle for sure. What I found worked pretty well was to loosen the belt and...

Re: Tippet Ring Knot

As stated many times, use the knot you use for your fly connection. Not all knots are created equal though.

This is the best article on knots I've read. I like it because Scheck tested all the...

Re: The Slow Demise of "Honor..."

That's a funny story Fred. Very "honorable" way to treat a guest!

Montana was know for its vigilante justice, they even had a code -- 7-7-77 -- which no one truly knows what it meant, but is to...

Re: Whatcha listenin to?

That is awesome Rip! What a cool history, dive bar with a local band of art rockers that someday down the road asked himself "how did I get here?"

Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

I haven't read beyond the original post yet so I sure there are at least 6 calls for a 4wt. You really need to have 4wt. I'd say an 8-0 to 8-6" 4wt would fit nicely in there.

Re: The Slow Demise of "Honor..."

Jerry, I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate run-in with a lowly welcher.

As a couple others have stated, there have been scoundrels and cheats around forever. Unfortunately much of the West...

Re: Trip Report to YNP and Madison River

Sweet trip, way to make it count. I've only fished the Lamar once, it was off color and I got skunked. But I fell in love with that river. Its notorious for silting up fast like that.

Re: Troy, montana

Hi shellback, as Kyle stated the Kootenia is up there and a by most accounts a very nice river with some nice rainbow trout. I'm not sure how "big" it is right now, I know it can be waded at times....

Hey Franklin, welcome!

For trout fishing in the West a 6wt is a very good rod to have. Also the 4wt you already bought her, nice job dad! I fish a 4wt mostly and admit I'm not a big streamer...

Re: Anyone use the New Zealand strike indicators?

That works. I have the system I just don't use it much. These days if I am going to nymph fish it is usually in a deep fast cut or in pocket water where I can tight line/high stick sans...

Re: Anyone use the New Zealand strike indicators?

It is not meant for suspending flies in heavy water. I would not try to use it in pocket water. That is what bobbers are for.
