Well, the plane ride was quite uneventful thankfully. No one said anything at anytime about carrying my rod.

Sadly, I went to go fishing on Wed, and my guide said that the water was way too high...

Thanks for all your suggestions! I've read on Southwest.com and it says I can carry it on, so that's what I'll do.
I'm going fishing 1/2 day on Wed (4hrs on water) so I hope to bring back some...

Glad they have the option of borrowing their gear. I'm apprehensive about putting a rod in the hands of baggage handlers.

realistically: Open early so I can buy stuff the morning before I leave. Not the mega stores. I buy at a store dedicated solely to fly fishing and it's about the size of a small one bedroom house....
