Re: Scott Fly Rods besides the Tidal

My favorite rod in the current line up (I have not yet cast the Flex, but every other one) is the A4. Yep, their "bottom" rod to me is the finest.

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

I think the biggest issue I am having is that I cannot, for the life of me, find these nippers on the Orvis site!

After all of this, I am gonna have a pair of these nippers if I have to deplete my...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

I absolutely agree with the gist of your post. And that is my point. While we would all readily condemn someone's speaking down on someone who was found using a low end rod, reel, line, etc. as being...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

You are probably right. No reason to even engage him on this. He has made it clear he sees those who have them as something less than himself and there is really no point further discussing it.

I...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

I absolutely adore when the nipper threads come up and the fingernail clipper guys get all huffy.

I would imagine they dropped several hundred dollars on a fly rod, a couple hundred on a reel and...

Re: 10' 4wt Radian line recommendation according to Scott

The Gold is a great taper, but awful line. I hate Rio lines. They are never straight.

I actually just threw away my last Rio Gold line that I had on a reel. Used it twice and was so irritated...

Re: Sage VXP, is it a good streamer rod?

You can find a Winston BIIISX for around that amount on the Bay. It is my go to streamer rod. I have it in the 6 weight and throw a 7 weight Titan Taper floating and a 7 weight streamer express sink...

Re: Curvature/warp in rod??

No kidding. All companies make mistakes. Sounds like they went above and beyond to make this right.

Re: Anybody fish a Redington Zero?

They are very good reels and well put together. My problem with them was the sound. The click on them is, imo, ridiculously loud and since I use my click and pawl reels mostly on small waters, it...

Re: Identify Orvis rod

If it's 8.5 foot for 5 weight, that is the Henry's Fork model. That is my personal favorite in the Superfine series.

Re: Small Stream Dry Fly Rod

I too am kind of a Scott fanatic. But for the smaller waters I went another direction and couldn't be happier.

The Red Truck glass rod is simply amazing. I have a small creek that I fish a lot...

Re: Orvis hydros sl vs Larson liquid

Kinda crazy to put the same system in a $100 reel as a $600 one. If it's that cheap of a drag (not saying it's a bad drag, but obviously very inexpensive) what possibly justifies such a price jump?...

Re: Orvis hydros sl vs Larson liquid

I have both and the Hydros is far and above the better reel of the two. Silky drag and very tight tolerances.

The Lamson is just another Lamson. I don't know why they don't come up with anything...

Re: Streamer fly line recommendations?

The Rio Outbound is definitely a heavy load, but it does work wonders for those quick shots. I have it on a six weight specifically for throwing mice from shore on some lakes where I have limited...

Euro Nymphing Outfit

Bought this outfit a couple months ago thinking I would get into this form of fly fishing but just have never done anything with it. All pieces are new, having never been fished or even cast. No box...

Re: High Uinta Angler Conclave

Sounds like a great time. But I'm doubting it will be accessible. The road just over Guardsman's pass still had about six feet of snow on it a week and a half ago and that isn't nearly as high up as...

Re: Streamer Rod

Well, you can have the best of both worlds.

My absolute favorite streamer rod is a Winston BIIISX 6wt that I throw seven weight line, both sinking and floating with. It will chuck 6wt line just...

Re: Cutts at the Berry - 05/20/2016

Never thought to chuck those from the shore. Will have to give it a go. We spent a couple weekends up there during ice off, which went WAY too fast. Some very nice fish to net and hooked, fought for...

Re: Things floating down river.

Saw the tips of three fly rods floating down the Green River once while fishing the bank.

A couple minutes later a scuba diver came out. He had dived the seven mile length picking up things lost...

Re: cicadas

Not so. We get an annual hatch on the Green River and the surrounding Flaming Gorge. Some years better than others, with some years being incredible.

Those bugs are very clumsy fliers and end up...

Re: Rio Lightline for 4 wt G Loomis NRX LP?

My experience with the GPX is that the loop connector they put on makes that line feel "clunky." Snip that off and nail knot a leader directly to the line and it is a whole new feel. Super smooth and...

Re: Indicator rod

I have a 9.5 foot 4pc 7 weight Ross Essence FS for sale. It's new, never even had a reel on it and in it's original tube. Would sell it for $85 shipped CONUS.

Let me know if interested.

Re: Line for Scott Radian 6wt?

When it was time for a new line for my Radian 5wt, I called Scott and talked with the shop guys. They recommended two lines. The first they recommend as the best was the Scientific Anglers Expert...

Re: A few questions about switching to a 3 weight rod?

Definitely fill the reel up. Helps to keep the line from forming those tight coils. You will probably never see it, but it will serve a purpose.

And if you got the Three Forks 7.5 foot 3 weight,...
