Colorado Cutthroat Paradise

Spent the morning in the James Peak Wilderness fishing for some of the most eager cutthroats I've ever seen! What a day! Literally one after another.

Re: Fishing RMNP - Trail Conditions

Made the hike to Ouzel Lake in the Wild Basin section of the park a couple days ago. The fishing was almost as good as the scenery. Had a bunch of fun with dry terrestrials on the banks, but the real...

Re: Colorado River Headwaters

I was nymphing all morning and if I had to choose, I'd say Copper Johns were hitting hardest.

Fished the Colorado River all morning yesterday with mixed results. Started at State Bridge at dawn and it was the Colorado River I've known all year. One Beautiful Brown after another (see pic). By...

Re: Fishing RMNP - Trail Conditions

Glad I was able to get the juices flowing about RMNP. It's been awesome up there and anyone who chooses to go will not be disappointed. Some more info that might be useful....

Re: RMNP (in late may?)

Just got back from two days at RMNP. Wind kept me off the lakes, but had a great time fishing for eager Brook Trout on Colorado River (Little more than a creek here. Albeit, and mind-blowingly...

Re: colorado trip

Had some of the best days of the year at Elevenmile. If there, as mentioned, you've got to put at least some time in the water just below the dam. There are some Bows of a lifetime in that part of...

Gotta agree with the post above. Outstanding thread. Lots of great information. Got my mouth watering for some RMNP Greenbacks. I'll have to make a trip asap to see if there aint some for me.

Re: Grand County, CO - Off the Beaten Path

Thanks for the advice. It's true, a good map goes along way. People forget about that these days. And there's something to be said for the joy of the hunt.

Know what you mean about keeping...

Re: Moe of them-thar Canuk's sneekin' acros ur bordar.

Know what you mean about small newspapers. I was a publisher of one for years, and I still cant get the ink out of my blood. Our paper's motto was a quote from Joseph Pulitzer - "A Newspaper Should...

Grand County, CO - Off the Beaten Path

My wife's family recently purchased a cabin near Grand Lake (a rare point for team in-laws). I've already taken full advantage and fished the **** out of some of the better known waters in the area....

Re: Water's Up on the South Platte

For me, success at Deckers comes from using tiny flies, and casting only when I see a fish. And when I do make a cast, I make sure that my indicator is as precisely set according to the specific...

Re: Water's Up on the South Platte

The Blue is definitely one of the begrudging exceptions...

How were the crowds, by the way? I was on the S. Platte yesterday (Deckers and up in Cheeseman) and it was pretty bad.

Water's Up on the South Platte

Waters up to 240+ CFS on the South Platte through Deckers canyon and the fishing is on. Although some liked the lower water (As it been earlier this year), when your an ungraceful 240 lbs with size...

Re: colorado trip

The itinerary above is spot on. In fact, I may just have to spend 2 days doing the same thing myself.

If it's on like it been on recently, I'd definitely head out to the Colorado, somewhere below...

Re: Muskie on a Fly Rod

I know its hard to see on the video, but the fish had very defined stripes on its' side that made me think Tiger Muskie. Do Pikes have similar markings?

Muskie on a Fly Rod

Ran into a large muskie holding in a creek above a reservoir. (Check out the link to a video I took of the fish) It seemed to be feeding on the surface, but it would not take the dry fly I presented....

Re: Newby fishing in Colorado

I agree... You'll be so close to the hogs at Deckers and Cheesman Canyon that it would be insane not to take at least 1 day to try to catch one for yourself.
