Re: Cabelas L-tech 6wt

This is a steal. I paid $160 for mine and love it. It is a nice rod for bass and small snook. If you are tossing clousers and smallish poppers you could do a lot worse. Plus the rod looks cool!;)

Re: Confession...

Me. I wrap the leader, ( usually 8'6" for snook or 10' for tarpon) around the back of the reel and that way the line is outside the guides so I can just cast without manually pulling the line out. On...

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

Try the Austin Angler in TX., Dan Baildy or George Anderson's shops in Livingston or Mangrove Outfiiters in Naples Fl. All are staffed by friendly knowledgeable folk. Heck I,ve had the guy at...

Cabelas TLR Switch?

I have been toying with the idea of a switch/spey rod for awhile but have held off on pulling the trigger due to cost plus the PITA factor of learning a new casting style. But now cabelas (damn them)...

Re: Fly rod length help

I have the 8'6" 3wt and absolutely love it. I mean I will probably love it to death as I take it into the salt and make it do things no 3wt should br asked to do (tarpon on a 3? Why not?).:D But if...

Re: Cemetery ponds, acceptable or no?

I respectfully disagree. I am a New Orleans kind of guy. I want that brass band playing Dixe Land jazz after they bury my skinny white arse, and I will smile from the grave if someone goes fly...

Dude, if I am buried next to a pond that holds bass and you DON'T fish it? I will haunt your ass. Go fishing.

Re: WTT partridge and starling

I'll take all the feathers from the ones you kill. PM me about what you want. I just bought a 1 wt and am having a blast catching panfish on soft hackles. I'm using briminators and old school spider...

TFO 1wt review. WOW!

Well folks I was a bit depressed on my birthday and thought I would try some retail therapy. In this case it was a great idea. I ordered a 6'9" TFO finesse 1wt with a BVK reel. I love this thing for...

Re: Need help for choosing first saltwatet fly combo

I use an 11 wt Ugly Stik to fill that niche. Its mostly a shark/big tarpon that I just want to hook and fight, but not land rod. It does the job with an exposed rim medalist and I won't cry if it...

Re: Need help for choosing first saltwatet fly combo

Add the Orvis Tip Flex 8 wt to that Rip tide. They are both quality rods for a reasonable price. I like the Clearwater as it comes in 9'6" length and that helps on windy days or with big flies. But...

Re: Need help for choosing first saltwatet fly combo

Well rats. It was the bargain cave just last week. Sorry. Still it is a good buy at $89. And it is still on sale. You can get one with a three forks rod for $99. Now those rods are nothing to write...

Re: Ultralite fly setup

I have and love CT 3. It is true moderate action, a slow 4 count. It is a blast on gills, small bass and jacks and cats. But if you ape arm it you can throw heavy sinking flies. And for salt water...

Re: Ultralite fly setup

No offense taken. I was on the UL site ten minutes ago. Its a nice place, just very specialized, basically 3 wt and under. But I love panfish so I like it! Here we cover all aspects of the sport.

Re: Need help with rod/reel options for my son

Skip the seven weight. They are like the ugly twin of a five weight. The five is the jack of all tradss, but master of none, but still a good all arounder. The seven just sucks. Its too heavy for...

Re: All fished out rant

That seems odd. I mean blue gills breed like rabbits. I don't know what the
Fl. limit is as I C@R 90% of time in fresh water, but its a lot of fish. ( OK I checked, its 50 panfish, no limit on...
