Re: Casting Lessons

There is certainly an overlap between guides and casting instructors - espceially if you hire a guide through a fly shop, or if you hire a guide who only guides fly fishermen.

If you look at...

Re: Casting Lessons

Re: Short rods for big flies?

I would agree with Pete that the main reason is for bass tournamens. Sage, TFO and Ross all make "bass" fly rods and their write-ups include the point that they meet tournament requirements.

I...

Re: Everglades Holiday Park

Josh,

That was a pretty nice bass.

The local market butcher/bass fisherman told me a few years ago that C-111 goes clear to Lake Okeechobee. I just followed it on Goog Earth from the stretch...

Re: Everglades Holiday Park

Here's a pic of my daughter's first LMB caught on the other end of C-11 on her first go at them, three to four miles from it's outlet into the Atlantic.

She was using a giant poppers on an 8wt...

Re: Clear Fly Line adavantegs?

Flygrain,

I also wonder about the flash when fishing mirror flats to tailing fish late in the day. That's the only time I've fished for them in recent years because of the crowds of people on all...

Re: The Shimano Beancounters Just Wrecked Loomis

As I said in another thread about Loomis, I'd like to see ALL manufacturers cut out the "lifetime" or "limited lifetime" guarantees and just do 3 month guarantees. Then publish replacement costs ...

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

To freshwater trout - I'd have to ask Jackster.

I've got a pair that Costa calls "Cocos" in a "Palladium Copper" color which I use for everything but night fishing. :D

I've tried blue costas offshore, but can see birds better with the ones...

Re: Good cooler that stays cold?

I keep 4 cases of bottled water in the freezer downstairs pretty much all the time. It cuts down on power to run the freezer, and I use them in my "fish box" when going out for table fare. The fish ...

Re: Everglades Holiday Park

I've not fished for bass that far north , but it's good bass fishing on most all of the canals from Lake Okeechobee south for sure. Even the canals in Miami are good for bass and peacocks.

The...

Re: 12 wt for GT and tarpon

I was talking to anybody, Labrador. I suppose it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference so long as you are fishing alone and not splitting a guide's fee with someone else.

Most guides are...

Re: 12 wt for GT and tarpon

I have a questiion. How do you move a fish that weighs over 100 lbs while keeping the rod pointed at it when it is 150 yds away or down under the boat?

Or for that matter even a small fish of 60...

Although off the subject, I've got...

Re: Best knot for 4wt line to backing without a welded loop.

For about 35 years now, I've been using a 2 foot length of leader wire (#4 or #3 if I don't have #4 handy) bent sharply in half for tying nail knots. For me it is way more reliable than a tie fast...

Re: Is there that big of a difference? Old vs. New

In saltwater models, I think it depends on the rod manufacturer, the rod series and ocassionally, the specific rod " line-weight" rating.

Since I have 10 Sage rods ranging from 5 to 12 wts (...

Re: If you can get it to float you can run a river ....

Interesting for sure! There is a small, very clanish group of fishermen in Vung Tau, Vietnam who weave large baskets similar to those buffalo bowls which they waterproof with gum from various trees....
