Last year I upgraded from a Griffin Superior to a Renzetti Saltwater Traveler and I love it. I've been very happy with it as is the friend I recommended it to.

I'd book a charter and use their equipment also until I was sure I was sticking with it. That said the TFO BVK is a nice rod for $250. I haven't tried the BVK reel but I like my Okuma SLV 8/9.

I've been looking at the Echo Gecko and a Redington rod for my 6-y-o. I'm not sure which would be best, though. Both are 4 wt I believe.

We have closed seasons on grouper, snapper, and seatrout. Some depend on whether you're on the Gulf or Atlantic side. Snook, too.
