Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

I can make one specifically for you in "bassy colors" if you'd like. What colors work for you in IA?

Re: Looking for an 8wt set up

Since you are looking for a "medium" rod, I don't have a recommendation for the rod portion.

However, I will tell you that the Alpha III from Allen is a great reel for the money. I use mine for...

Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

Looks great. I'll gladly take bass or pike colors, if need be.

Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

Here she is. It looks pretty much the same, but it has a different makeup. I got the other flies wet, and with so much marabou, they slimmed down too much for my liking. Instead of the palmered...

Re: A question about knives.

My EDC is a ZT 0350. It's not small, but it carries nice. It's no auto, but I can get it out of my picket and locked open pretty damn quick.

Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

You didn't have to do that.

I got some materials today to start tying mine. I had an idea on my way home from the fly shop, so I will give it a go tonight, and see what I think. I'll probably...

If you start feeling the heat, so to speak, I know a safe place. In all seriousness, thank you for your service. [emoji1]

Re: Damn! That was a humbling experience.

Man, sounds like a great trip. We are heading back again this year (3rd time's a charm?), and I've ready begun dreaming...it's going to be a long winter.

Re: A question about knives.

You can carry it here in Indiana. Autos just became legal about a year ago (July 2013, IIRC). The residents have been pushing legalization for a long time, and it finally passed. Now, if we could...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Tied up a couple more last night. Same pattern, just different colors. I'm definitely getting more proficient and I think the heads are finally looking halfway decent. Last night, while I was...

Re: Allen Fly Fishing - New Give Away

:icon_lol: Too bad that was my final guess on this one. I really appreciate your generosity! I will be adding more Allen gear to my stash soon. I have the Alpha III, couple guide cases and hooks....

Re: Allen Fly Fishing - New Give Away

Here's my last guess for this one.

Since you played at Culver (I believe), the goalies were either #1 or #29-#30 (IIRC from my high school days). #1 with 4 and 5 surgeries were already guessed,...

My response was in no way directed toward you. Congrats on the new reel, those look slick.

Re: What have you been tying today?

Streamer #10 for me. Still a little rough, but making progress.

I'm sure it has a name, but this was a "I think this would look good" tie.

I've been watching videos more than tying, so this...

Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

Exactly the feedback I was looking for. Thank you. All my fishing is for smallies, so I'm "out of the loop," so to speak when talking trout. My brother in-law says olive/black is most productive...

Re: Time for a Streamer Fly Swap, Who Wants In?????

Alright, I think I have the fly I'm going to tie for the swap. I'm sure it has a name, but this was a "free hand" tie for me. I've been watching video upon video on tying big streamers to get...

Re: Winter Fly Fishing Jacket

Yes, my wife questions me every time I go out during the winter. "You're just going to sit outside in the woods and hope a deer walks by when it's going to be 3?" "You're going to the river in...

Re: Winter Fly Fishing Jacket

I think that would be a great combo. I used them with a thin pair of fleece glove liners thinking I could still tie knots. I ended up taking the fleece gloves off to change flies, but my hands were...

Re: Winter Fly Fishing Jacket

Latex surgical gloves as a "base layer" for the hands. I fished last winter in single digits and it worked surprisingly well.

Re: What have you been tying today?

I'm starting to get the hang of using ice/lazer dub for the heads. At first, I was using way too much material. I still need practice, but they are getting better.

Yes, pretty much all my flies...
