Pre-4th Blue Lining

Fourth of July weekend is a time for families to celebrate independence. Usually this involves a grill, some meat, and beverages of choice. Locations vary, but for a lot of folks, this is the one...

want to start flyfishing

I don't think anyone would argue that panfish aren't more fun on a light Rod. I just don't think he'll be happy for long with a 5wt trying to catch bass and carp. In that case, whoever it was who...

Re: North Carolina fishing on 7/2

I would suggest more elevation for colder water. There are a ton of blue lines off the parkway that offer just that. While I haven't fished it much, the S. Toe river in Burnsville runs right off the...

Re: want to start flyfishing

I think 5wt is going to leave you frustrated if you're trying to cast flies if any size to bass or weighted flies to carp. Believe it or not, a fiberglass 7 wt will still bend quite nice with a pan...

Re: Rod blank issue?

I've only read about it, never done it myself. But from what I've read, Spar Varnish is what you're looking for and its best to use one that is Exterior or Marine Rated, like Helmsmen, Man O War,...

Re: Rod blank issue?

You can dip it varnish and let it dry. Do it a couple times until the desired thickness is achieved. If you make it too thick you can always sand it back down a little.

Re: Ideas on wet-wading shoes?

Check out Astral Buoyancy. The are mostly known for their whitewater PFDs, but they also make a line of footwear specifically designed for river use. I have a pair and they are fantastic.

Re: Fly rods in hot vehicle

I've also heard Rosenbauer talk about it on the podcast and I've kept rods in my trucks tool box and in the back of my hatchback. I have never noticed any ill effect to the Rod or the line. I...

Re: Scott Radian versus Sage ONE...

I wonder if anyone has compared the Radian to Orvis' new Recon. There are rumors that the recon is simply the old Helios painted a different color... I don't know, as I never cast the old Helios, but...

Re: First bluegills on a flyrod

Subzero- if you're looking for s good 3wt for gills, look no further than fiberglass. You will not find a better rod for making these guys even more enjoyable than they already are. The sale seems to...

Re: SAGE Introduces MOD Family of Fly Rods...

You can't get a "medium action" rod all day long for under $200, and a few really good ones for under $100 if you wait for the sales. I confess I just don't understand spending $850 on a fly rod just...

Re: 2wt & poppers

I'm sure they put a nice bend in the 2wt. Gills are my favorite.

Re: The short era of fiberglass rods...

Very neat stories indeed. I find it intriguing how people journey through the various rod materials. I too am relatively young and started with graphite and have now adopted glass wholeheartedly. I...

Re: Help me pick my next rod

Much much cheaper, but the Redington Classic Trout 9' 4wt throws a wonderful loop and will present a dry very delicately. And it's only about $99 right now from Cabela's. I have one, and it is a...

So sorry to hear about this. I wouldn't hesitate to let the local shop know (if there is one). Someone knows something... Those guys need their rods snapped in half and then used to give them a good...

TFO Pro II vs TFO Mangrove 7wt

I did the same side by side test with the bvk and the mangrove. I went with the mangrove. Not that it's better in every way, but it certainly suits me better.

I noticed that as well and was wondering the same thing... I have the ATS 1 on a 3wt and it is a fantastic reel. I also have a Trout II and an Alpha III. I would be happy with any of Allen's...

Re: What's special about razor scissors?

The difference is they are WICKED sharp. It's hard to describe until you use them. They cut through material with such ease that sometimes it feels like there isn't anything even between the blades...

Re: TFO Pro II vs TFO Mangrove 7wt

TiCrX is gonna be waaay stiffer than the mangrove. The point of the mangrove is to make realistic fishing casts at real world distances for real world casters. It is definitely softer, but that...

Re: TFO Pro II vs TFO Mangrove 7wt

Sorry, but it's such a joke that a shop won't get a Rod in for you to try without signing your name in blood that you'll purchase it. The point of doing business with brick and mortar is to handle...
