Re: Required to fence or post private property?

Re: Measuring casting distance

I like the analogy to golf in this thread. For the most part, at least for me, casting for distance is done for fun and I've rarely had to do it for any practical purpose. Usually I'm trying to...

Re: Do I have a 'Mouse in the House???'

I picked up a stacked wood pile from a friend's home last fall and as I was loading the wood I scared out about a dozen or so mice. A few days later my friend's wife told me she found her buckeye...

Re: The rude Alaskans

I don't mind sharing a hole with someone but that's ridiculous. I've only had a couple of bad experiences. One was in Michigan the first year I went steelheading. Last fall I was at the end of a...

Re: Took the kids fishing

I wish I'd been that clever. He was on his last fish, the other two already had their limits. I was able to take a third adult who wasn't allowed to fish only help so it wasn't too bad at least...

Took the kids fishing

My oldest son won our hatchery lottery this year so he got to take me, his two brother's and his grandfather fishing at our rainbow trout hatchery in Castalia. Our fishing slot was from 11:10 am...

Re: Stinky Waders

I hand wash mine in the tub, turned inside out with a mild detergent. It also helps to turn them inside out to dry as soon as you get them off after every trip.

Re: For the men who have small children

I feel for you. I've got a 9 year old, a 7 year old and a 6 year old. I made it out about 3 times this spring steelheading but only because I skipped work for the day and got back before the kids...

Re: Tying tippet to leader

What knot are you guys using on your tippet rings? I started using tippet rings last fall using improved clinch knots and am wondering if a different knot would be better?

Except for clousers I've stopped using head cement.

Re: private property along rivers

There's a lot of threads regarding private property and trespassing on the Ohio Game Fishing Forum. Most of them get pretty heated. http://www.mcrealestate.org/search/commonsearch.aspx?mode=address...

Re: So you caught a sucker/fallfish what do you do?

I caught my first sucker this spring while steelhead fishing. Nice size to her but didn't fight much. I threw her back, the steelhead were lining up behind her eating her spawn and my spawn fly.

Re: My First Original Fly

Very impressive. You should definitely send them out for testing to all of us so we can verify they catch fish.:)

Re: Teaching fly tying to my buddy.

Had to look that one up. From the pictures I found they must have similar lineage. Tucker is half Airedale and half Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. A gun dog breeder in Tennessee raises both for...

Teaching fly tying to my buddy.

He finds it fascinating. As soon as I open my tying cabinet he starts following me around. My other dog could care less, that's him napping in the background.

Re: What's the purpose of neoprene wading socks?

What cutthroat said and they do keep your feet warmer. Unless you specifically get a dry sock they will fill with water even without going over the top. But the water should warm to your body temp...

Re: Simms Nippers

I thought it was just me. Mine are also extremely dull. I've only used them maybe a dozen times and today couldn't cut off the knots at the eye of my flies. My 3 year old wally world nippers are...

Re: Virginia Beach Area in Mid-May….? Any thoughts?

+2 on Bubba's. I've never fly fished there but there should be plenty of places to hit. We caught more fish and different types just a mile or two off shore than I could keep track of. On the...

Re: Flies for fast river smallies

In fast clear water I mainly use anything that looks like a minnow or bait fish. White chenille or estaz, flashy material for buggers with bead heads or cones, not too heavy. Or un-weighted...

Re: Fly tying saves money?

I think I'm saving money. Yes, the vise and initial materials were fairly expensive but I can get dozens of flies out of a limited amount of materials. The flies would have cost me on average $3.00...

Re: Is it possible to get away from people in Ohio?

My fishing buddy and I hit the V yesterday also. Our second trip there, great river. We saw a lot of fish but only had a few hookups. Saw a couple caught by some guys down stream from us. Bite...

Re: Secluded places in western ohio or nearby

There are a few rivers in the area like you mentioned. Most of them don't get much pressure because they mostly look like a muddy mess, at least in the spring and early summer. But there are...

Re: Used Winston sellers/buyers beware

That brings back memories of my senior year in college. Our star Canadian hockey player slipped on the ice outside his dorm, broke his leg and missed the entire season.:(
