Re: Is a 6 wt switch rod equivalent to an 8 wt?

I think I'd go with a 7wt. You use 8wt line on the reel for a 7 wt switch rod. With some with wind, trying to throw an indicator and you hook up with a 10# steelhead -- I think you'll be glad you...

Re: Wading Jacket ?

Just bought a Cabela's decoy jacket -- same style as a wading jacket -- gore tex with a zip in substantial liner. I can use it for very cold days and when it warms up, take out the liner. lots of...

Re: First Fly Rod..

If I was going to fish smallies and large mouth more often I think I'd go with a 7wt. If steelhead are the main target -- 8wt for me. I just got an 8wt and while I was in the market i looked on...

Re: Line for switch rod ?

Usually you go one weight up from the rod for the line. However, the shop you buy the rod from should have a better idea which line is best. I just bought an 8 wt switch rod and the shop said the...

Re: Help with a steelhead rod

I have to get smarter on the whole shooting heads thing. Right now I'm using an indicator (bobber in my vernacular) and that's about it. This is the fun part, learning and working on it until your...

Re: Bass!

Bass on a fly rod are a ball. It's a good test of fly rod casting ability to work a popper along a rock wall or line of lilly pads. You must be in warm climate. It's 30 this morning in my neck of the...

Re: Help with a steelhead rod

For what it's worth I ended up buying a Sage TCX 8119-4 -- paid $529.00 for it which is about $200 more than I wanted to pay but they threw in a new box of Rio Switch 8/9 line. So, overall not a bad...

that Sage size wise should be fine. Not sure about the quality of that reel. For the SR you need a reel with stopping power or you better be very good at break dancing across rocks because you'll be...

Re: Reel for 7 wt Switch rod ?

The reel is a tough choice -- there are so many on the market. If I was buying one I'd look for a sealed no maint drag and spend as much as you can afford. A reel with a very good drag is critical on...

I fished the flies only section in the Salmon ...
