Re: Fly gear prices back in the old days.

My first (what I thought of as a) "good" outfit was a Cortland 8' 6" for 5-6 wt line, a GRF 1000, 100% Graphite. I loaned it to a guy and it came back broke. Looked like the ferrule had worn out and...

Re: Good Morning from Idaho

I'm putting off lots of chores and honey dews because of the heat. I'll probably do that until it's too cold with exceptions for doves and ducks and deer.
My son and I drew doe tags, BIL has a Cow...

Re: Looking for a new fishing ride. Anyone tried this one?

Those rides would probably spit my gear out.
But I'll give Tweedy there a shot: I'll race my '05 1/2 ton Chevy Pick up against that thing for "pinks". He has to seat belt 5 passengers + driver and...

Handy Biots

I just saw this on line somewhere, might be here. It went by so fast I nearly missed it. I wish I could credit the poster. This is brilliant! Absolute genius! Much easier to pick out a pair and cut....

Re: A new beach side 'Munchie?'

Fred, get them cheaper in the bulk food section of your local grocer. Also, you can mix varieties. You'll be a regular guy.;)

Re: Break a rod . . . in anger?

"Father, forgive me..."

I bought my son an 8' 6" 4wt Custom brand rod. It was labeled 99% Graphite. it was a significant upgrade in gear for the boy though it only cost $40.00 in a Rite-Aid.

Re: Drift boat mod

I passed a guy on the hwy last week, towing a 18"=/- closed bow fiberglass boat. He'd built a four legged table from heavy plywood and 2" iron pipe that was clamped on the fore deck with ratchet...

Re: Mormon Crickets. “Anabrus simplex”

There are lots of local attributes for critters. Some local hunters kill so many Canada geese they call them "sky carp".
In Jersey we called feral pigeons "gutter eagles". Here they're "Rock Doves".

Re: William Sherwood Fox

Shakespeare said it thus: His words are as two grains of wheat in two bushels of chaff; you may seek all day ere you find them, and when you have them, they are not worth the search."

Re: The experts agree ...well, maybe not ..

I got to test drive a 9' 5 Wt Sage one at the Silver Creek opener. I like my TFO better, even before the money thing.

Re: I'm Back!

This year, Idaho really is a little piece of heaven. I don't think the whole rest of the country combined (excluding Hawaii) could string together the run of beautiful June/ July days we've had here.

My first rod, a "package" outfit. A 9' 7 wt Shakespeare composite rod with a plastic reel. Brown with a brown foam rubber handle. Bought in a Rite-Aid drug store in '83 or '85. Often seen in pawn...

Re: Tying thread spool tender

I have some materials I've loaded onto empty thread spools. Some of this stuff doesn't stay put as well as the thread, and won't go into the notch in the spool. I've been putting small rubber bands...

Re: Suggested patterns for a new tier?

The "EP" stuff in those flies-the black wing and the twisted green and blue bodies- are Fish Hair. I bought this so long ago, I don't know if anyone still sells it.
The blue foam is Dollar store...

The only time I sit down and tie a dozen (or more) of the same fly is for swaps. Usually I pull out a half dozen or so and set them on one of those magnets while I build a few, then change to...

Re: Suggested patterns for a new tier?

I really love the top water strikes you can draw with an adult damsel fly this time of year. Lay it on the water near cover and wait as long as you can to move it, just a little. Bass often come...
