Re: Total species

I've caught smallmouth, northerns, steelhead, brown trout, king salmon, coho salmon, suckers, carp, chubs, crappies, bluegills and even a goby all in the same river all within about 10 miles of...

Re: Simms Nippers

I too bought a pair of Simms nippers. They cut as good as a willow branch cuts steel.
So I needed something while out on the steam and i discovered that my hemostats have a cutting edge in close to...

Re: Eat that fish, or release it?

This is incorrect.
You have no idea why they are small, is it because of lack of food or is it because of high fishing pressure and fish never get a chance to reach potential.
WI is currently...

Re: The Heart Of Wisconsin's Driftless Area "Stream Photos"

As a born and raised resident of Wisconsin I've always been partial to Wisconsin. Been to every state west of the Mississippi and alot of the ones east too. I've always thought Wisconsin is one of...

Re: sales of public land to private business

I assume that you mean the estate, not the state.
I don't know where you live but we have a thing around here called zoning. You'd never be able to buy 80 acres of A1 (agricultural) zoned land and...

Re: sales of public land to private business

Not all Public land is good for the public.
I'm speaking of State owned land.
I know of 2 examples in my county that were a waste of taxpayers money and do no good for local residents.
1st one is...

Re: What do you use for an indicator?

I use a 3/4 dia. foam ball (bright orange in color) with a hole thru the center.
You can buy these and they usually come with small chunks of rubber band that they want you to fix the line to the...

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

I know where your coming from as far as passing up spots that aren't "swinging water".
What I do is this. In the early spring I leave my switch rod home and use my "nymphing pole". I do this because...

Re: Night fishing

I've done the Hex hatch a couple of time. The Hex is Hexagenia limbata, or Giant Michigan Mayfly. They start hatching right at dark. Its great fun. You can't see a thing. The trout rising make big...

Re: The Two Reasons Why I Can Live With Tippets...

I must be missing something. Why would having 2 spools of tippet mat'l cause any grief?
I too keep only 2 spools of tippet mat'l in my coat pocket. I use 6 and 8 lb if I'm drifting bugs, 8 and 10 if...

Re: "An open letter to America's anglers"

My .02 cents.
On being against development
I see a great collective NO being yelled out at the latest development but then all the collective jumps in their big 4 wheel drive pickups and head home...

Re: 6 or 7 weight switch rod?

8wt, no doubt, big flies, big fish, heavy tips.
In my limited experience I feel a heavier rod is more versatile than a lighter rod.
I have a 7wt switch and wish I would of gotten a 8wt. Oh well in...

Re: Great Lakes surf

Yes, and fall too. I think its mostly timing. I have a buddy who has caught them in the spring at the mouth of the rivers before they run up. They seem more reluctant to run up small streams so they...

Re: Moraine Creek

I did this exact thing last August.
Was a lot of fun.
Between the fishing and the bears I don't know which was more fun.
I caught Rainbows, Grayling, Arctic Char, Sockeye Salmon and I even got a...

Re: Great Lakes surf

I have fished where rivers dump into the big lake. Early spring, before fish were in the river heavy. Only reason I did it was cause the river was really slow. No luck. I think its gotta be a timing...

Re: Anglers get a Voice in Fisheries Management

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand its good that anglers concerns are listened to. But on the other hand anglers concerns often are at odds with each other and good Biological choices.

Re: Switch rod advice?

I like your line of thought, I got a 7wt switch and many times Its been at its limits with a fish on, casting large flies and heavy tips is tough. Next one is going to be a 8wt.

That's "inland" waters. The Tribs, Lake Michigan tributaries, (steelhead and lake run browns) are open all year. Just a matter of being "fishable". there are people that fish steelhead and lake run...

Re: Atlantics in Michigan?

no, its not combat fishing, Steelhead run in spring is worst. But most of the "fisherman" tend to congregate in one area. Atlantics is not crowded at all. If your a very good wader you'll have 90% of...

Poor woman was so upset she had to post it on social media. "it...
