Re: Good cooler that stays cold?

Its no secret that I like good gear. Excess gear in many cases, like the ridiculous number of fly rods, reels and lines that I own. The Yeti's are obviously proven and I'd probably think twice...

Re: Trout near selinsgrove pa

Hi,

Its been a while since I fished it, but years back when I had a consulting gig that took me all over PA, I took advantage and took my fishing gear with me. I'd fish in the evenings rather...

Re: J. Stockard

FishUSA and Ultimate Angler both have good selections of materials. When I order online in preparation, I usually hit up FishUSA. Now when I'm in Erie, I make it a point to hit up Ultimate Angler. ...

Re: Fly Line

It sure can make a difference as you have pointed out. Case in point your full sinking line vs. the floating line you have. Assuming your floating line is matched appropriately to the rod, could it...

Re: Steelhead rods

Funny that you mentioned Winston Burke. My rod of choice is a 7100 BIIX that I picked up on closeout. At least to me, it's an ideal choice for a single hand rod. Soft tip, strong butt and light...

Re: Practice Fly Line

When it's time to replace your fly line, don't discard the old one and instead use that as practice line. Get a cheap reel, spool it up and you're ready to go. Do the same thing with your old...

Re: Well that sucks...(World Cup)

I've been enjoying it as well and in particular the sporting events where the world is a stage. That was one heckuva match tonight, too bad it had to come to and end for the US.

Re: 3 Weight Rod Choice: 2 or 4 piece?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. Assuming you're talking about graphite rods...the manufacturers have been able to design rods that achieve similar/same desired feel in 4 piece rods as the 2 piece rods...

Re: What should I buy ? Simms Headwater or Orvis Sonic Guide Waders ??

I've owned both Orvis and Simms waders and had good experiences with both.

I'm not as familiar with the Headwaters as I am G3's, but a quick look at Simms and I can see they're 3 layers of Gore...

Re: Stike Indicator Help

I've recently tried Bentley's Balls and am pretty happy with those. I like them in white, they blend right in with the bubble line.

Re: Steelhead rods

Not sure if you have been to Ultimate Angler or not, but those guys will treat you right. If you have a budget in mind I'd think they can work with you on that. They seem to do a lot of fly tying...

Re: Steelhead rods

Yep, those would be some of the more brush choked ones. If you fish those more often than not, go with a 790. The longer rods help with mending at longer distances and reaching over currents and...

Re: Steelhead rods

If you fish the two biggest creeks, a 10ft 7 is ideal. If you're fishing some of the smallest ones, stick with a 9ft 7. I've fished a couple of the small ones once and they can get pretty brush...

Hard to beat a day like that Brian. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on these boots. I've been using the Riversheds for most of my fishing where I need to use studs. Since I've been blessed...

Re: Nymphing vs. Snagging

At least by my experiences fishing dry flies is is probably the most effective way to ensure you're hooking up in the mouth. I am basing this on the fact that when you cast a dry fly you are not...

Re: Salmon and steelhead rod

Hi Glen,

A few questions. Are you planning on going more for Salmon or more for Steelhead and pike mixed in? Is your budget $350 for a rod or whole outfit?

The reason I'm asking is if I...

Re: Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be nice

Personally, I wouldn't want line like that. Then again, I have more than enough reels to put line on for certain rods and this gives me a reason to use them. Aside from what I mentioned about reels...
