Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

I'm going to suggest the Airflo Rage Compact. It is that perfect blend of Scandi grace and Skagit power. You can cast sink and floating tips and I have cast mine out a good distance but also been...

Re: Line recomendation - Orvis Helios 8 weight

One of the guys I fish with uses this rod as well. He has an 8 wt and uses the SA saltwater line which loads the rod beautifully.

Re: Didn't get skunked!

I think the technical name for the fish is the maximus jawuos. It translates into fresh water large jawed mako shark. ;) Those are some great shots.

Re: 10ft or Switch?

If you're going with a 10' rod you might as well go 11' and get the switch. You will have a far more open opportunity to fish with it and can go with spey style casts if your arm gets tired.

Re: A terrible practice day

This is the only head I have as I just started this summer. I might pick up a longer line next summer. I really enjoy how well the rage can cast both a dry fly and a wet/streamer.
