Re: Best place to buy rods online

Sorry for the confusion here. We do indeed offer a free line (up to $80).

Cool Re: Best place to buy rods online

Here's my *totally* unbiased opinion.

Here's 5 reasons to buy from Trident (http://www.tridentflyfishing.com/):

1. We offer a free fly line with the purchase of a Radian (and most other...

Re: Thinking about Rod length

Ed - what's your intended use? What other rods do you currently own, like or dislike?

Re: Helios 2 / Recon with Outbound 8wt. Any feedback?

I've got an H2 8-wt and have fished Outbound Short's on it extensively. I really enjoy the outbound on it. For a slightly softer rod, I've been really impressed by the H2's ability to cast a wide...

Re: Galvan Grip versus Nautilus CCF-x2

While it looks like this has been adequately addressed, I thought I'd weigh in, in case someone else is interested.

The basic difference between the two reels is going to be arbor size - very...

Re: 10' or 11' 3wt for euro nymph rod???

Jason - the tapers on the DXF are faster, but similar.

Re: Salt rod to do all?

My 2 cents:

I had a 9-weight... never used it, then sold it. I now have an ultra-fast 9wt that I use strictly for pike, as it does make throwing bigger flies easier. I've never felt the need for a...

Re: Ross CLA vs. Sage 4200-Series in 6wt size.

Both are good reels, the performance is better on the 4200, but the CLA has been discontinued and is super cheap right now, so I'd go with that if you can find one.

Re: Trident Fly Line Shootout

We got it late and when I started casting it, it was too cold and things were acting strangely and I didn't want to make a judgement one way or another on the line. It's definitely a line that could...

Re: New 3wt

We're happy to do that for you - we actually have a demo rod available in a 3wt. The Douglas is easily the most fun graphite rod I've cast for fishing under 30'

We also do have some of the lighter...

Re: Any of you eastern boys using spey rods for great lake tribs?

I'd be looking at a switch. Spey rods are too big for most of the rivers. Frankly, I never really understood switch rods until I went to the Salmon River. They are much lighter and more fun to fish,...

Re: Hardy Zephrus SWS

We did a video review/comparison here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMXZt1ruhu8

Great rod overall and a big upgrade over the Proaxis.

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

I've had totally the opposite experience. I've cast dozens of lines on it and I haven't found one that I really hated, though I will agree that the older Airflo lines generally don't load quickly...

Re: Rio Single Hand Spey Line (new) ?

I've only cast the 5-weight, and while I really like the line, I wouldn't say that it would be good for throwing big streamers.

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

Without completely hijacking the thread - I cast Rio Bonefish on it - while light and long, IMO every good flats rod should be able to cast it accurately. I suppose if you like the Winston Saltwater...

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

I just tested it this weekend. Way too fast for a flats rod. It's in line with the series, which is really fast. It's also got single foot guides and small-ish stripping guides which also makes it a...

Re: Reel to balance Winston 4 wt?

Mike - I have a B3x 8'6" 4wt and I love it with the Sage Click III... so I think you could probably put as light of a reel as you wanted on that rod with no trouble. For bigger trout, I'd go with a...

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

I'll backpedal a little - it's not *the best* bonefish line. Chard Taper is an amazing all purpose line for tropical saltwater, but I use it for:

- Permit
- Tarpon (most of the time)
- Bonefish...

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

Mike - basically Chard taper isn't a good bonefish line because it splashes too much. You could get around that by crafting a long, stiff, leader, but it's not a great solution. Rio/SA Bonefish will...

Re: NRX 8wt w/ AirFlo Bruce Chard Tropical Punch

It works very well on the NRX. If you're fishing for permit with a long leader, it's a good choice. It wouldn't be my top choice for bonefish.
