Re: How old is your 'fishing car?'

My 2005 Subaru Outback has about 117K miles and it still purrs like a kitten. The all wheel drive feature comes in handy for a lot of the dirt roads that I need to get to for my fishing...

Re: Saltwater Flies - Need advice

Homer and Jim pretty much covered it.

I have heard that the fishing Tahiti is like Christmas Island. You will be walking a lot of flats.

I will add something to the discussion. Jim talked...

Re: Best rod for throwing articulated streamers?

What you should be looking for is a quality faster action 6 or 7 weight in a 9' to 10' length depending on the payload that you intend to throw and length preference.

My main trout streamer rod is...

Re: Best rod for throwing articulated streamers?

What fish are you targeting?

What size fly?

Is the fly sparsely tied, or is it tied bulky?

Is the fly weighted?

I will use anything from a 4 weight to an 8 weight for a streamer rod. I...

Re: Salmon reel choice

Welcome to the forum, and lucky you!

All are good reels, and like fyshstykr, I'm kind of partial to the Lamsons, but I may err towards the newer Speedster model. I prefer the narrower and...

Re: sierra opener.

Popular options are the West and East Forks of the Carson River off of Highways 88 and 89. Alpine County stocks the forks heavily for the opener. If wild fish are your targets, you can hike below...

Re: 5wt. weighted line for lake inlets.,...

You could use a sinking type leader if you wish.

Nothing beats using the right line for the job. A full sink line with an appropriate leader in stillwater will keep the fly at the proper depth...

Re: what do think about bauer reelsiu

I own an older MacKenzie Superlite #5 model which is rated as for 9/10 weight single handed rods. I used it on my 12'9" 6 weight Spey rod, but stopped using it for that purpose. It was too light. ...

Re: California or Las Vegas or San Francisco trout fishing

All the good trout fishing in Northern California will be east of San Francisco.

Do your research on:
Putah Creek - Rainbow and Brown Trout
Lower Yuba River - Rainbow Trout
Lower Feather River...

Re: spare spool alternative?

There are a few different line winders that are available at the retail level. These allow you to wind your lines in larger coils. Loop to loop connections make changes quick.

Lots of good advice, so far.

If you get a chance, test cast your rod with an eight and a nine weight demo line from your local fly shop on a windy day. In some bonefishing situations, you need to...

Re: Alevin?

I usually dead drift an alevin pattern under an indicator in the local anadromous rivers. It's a very effective technique on Steelhead and the resident trout.

In regards to what they are called,...
