How do you fish midges?

My entire life I have always fished a midge ridge by tying to the hook eye and the bend in the hook. The other day I used the dropper loop concept, and I hated it. That thing kept in a tangled mess. ...

And that was because he asked for generalized opinion on the subject. Knowing now that aside from personal opinions, his personal circumstance would have been completely illegal anyway, maybe this...

Re: Catch and release argument

I agree, to each his own. I did get out of hunting for a year or 2 about 10 years ago but I found myself very worried about what I actually buy from the grocery stores these days. There is no...

Re: Catch and release argument

Saying you won't keep a fish based upon ones belief in not killing is completely different than not doing so from a conservation standpoint. If that is your stance, then say so. That is a completely...

Re: Catch and release argument

Sounds like it. Never had to deal with that nor have I been around it. Kind of glad in sorts.

I understand. Go with your gut, and I'll go with mine.

Re: Catch and release argument

Long term mismanagement of their habitat, food sources and population is what will harm population numbers in the future.

Saying to watch what you say on keeping a couple here and there, is not...

Re: Catch and release argument

I believe in Murphy's Law in that 'if it can happen, it will happen'. In other words, if you don't keep said fish, somebody or something else will. So don't believe for one second that if you don't...

Re: June Caption Competition-Sponsored by Allen Fly Fishing

Catching more zzzzzzz's leads to catching more fish. It's proven or at least I'll prove it today.

Re: Steal of a deal

I talked him down $10 prior to me knowing his reason. When he gave me the flies on his own accord and then told me his story, I slid him the $10. It still wasn't enough but it was all I brought.

Re: Steal of a deal

You're exactly right. It's rare but a great feeling. I hate it had to come at his expense but him and his wife seemed very content.

Steal of a deal

After breaking an older LL Bean rod I had, I was left looking for a new small stream rod. I happened to stumble upon an elderly gentleman in the local classifieds who had bought some fly fishing gear...

Re: Let The Battle Begin

I have been buying Bass Pro flouro and never had any issue with it. It's $8 for 30m spool which is almost half price of everyone else.

Re: It's not your dads Buick.

I try to steer clear of the 'fad' fly fishing group. You know the ones who look skateboarders on the water.

My old pickup, worn out denim shirt, and greasy old ball cap suit me just fine.

Re: Allen Fly Fishing CS issues?

This is why I love Allen. I bought an ATS rod last year and haven't put it down since. Love their customer support and their integrity, which is hard to come by.

Thanks for all you do Justin.

Davidson River, NC 5/9

She put up a good fight, no doubt about that. You never know how much you'll run/swim around a small river to gain position until you've hooked a hoss on a 6x tippet and you have to protect that...

Re: Stupid is as stupid does

Very good lesson to teach and learn. I have with 2 fly rods. Took them out of my truck at a gas station to move around some of my camping stuff and put ice in a cooler, and I forgot to put them back...

Re: Can I use wf line with streamers for trout

I fish everything on WF line with no issues, and I usually don't have to adjust my leader on most of the freestone streams here in NC. There are some exceptions like the Tuck but otherwise I am fine.

Nostalgic flies

Re: Korkers BuckSkin vs Chrome

I have found that most good fly shops will have a few pairs of neoprene gravel guards on hand for you to throw over your socks to simulate the stocking foot when trying on boots.

Good luck and...

Re: Parking lot casting, etc. Stream Contamination

This thread is simply ridiculous.

Wading boots pick up contaminants. Waders and the waterproofing on them carry and are contaminants. Sunscreen, bug spray and that grease dried up on your hands...
