Re: Best all-around flats fishing line?

I wished I could add to this discussion. I just spent $85 on a SA mastery textured Grand Slam. It works well in the backyard. It is my first textured line and it does make a little noise but nothing...

Re: Leeches

I warm water fish and it is usually way too hot to wear waders. Never had a problem with leaches nor poison Ivy but I sure hate those neddles. I do usually wear shorts. If it was not for the heat I...

Re: Surf casting in wind

For the surf I use a 9wt with a 9wt line. ....the line and the rod can dictate the fly size and weight. Not all rods are created equal. It is helpful if the rod has some reserve backbone. As...

Re: Warm water fishing in winter

I only found them in 2 places. Under undercut banks and the cast must be quite accurate. Dinner plate sized area and slow retrieve and close to bottom so a fast sinking fly is needed like a small and...

Re: My quest for a dedicated bluegill setup...

Nice rod but you should have bought a 2 or 3wt in about a 6 1/2' rod IMO.

Re: Warm water fishing in winter

I am from east central Indiana and I used to fish the river up to the time it just got too uncomfortable for me to be out. What I found was that the fish seemed to move to just a few areas that were...

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

I read above that when one is dealing with people that some are a....holes and you just have to tolerate it. I am sorry but an a......hole does not have to be tolerated nor will I tolerate it whether...

Re: Home Waters

I have 3 small warm water creeks. 2 are within 5 minutes drive. They are nothing special. Small sunfish and a few smallmouth but they are close and I can be on the water at a drop of the hat for a...

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

I made a comment a few days ago. On the reverse end of the scale I will say that I was half owner of a tackle shop many years ago. Fly fishermen were rare in east central Indiana so this was a geared...

Re: Where do the crappie go?

Where ever they go they are close to a food source. If they are suspended over deep water there must be either bait fish there or some kind of swimming bugs. With the human animal follow the money....

Re: Colorado Walleye questions

Other than the spring they are deep deep deep most of the time. Not a great fly rod target. Even in the spring they are deep enough that sinking lines are best. I am referring to still waters here....

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

IMO it is not just shop owners. It is fly fishermen in general...Many of us propagate the idea that fly fishing is Black Magic and only a special few can do it. ....You need to be using a $1000+ out...

Re: Confession...

I am an old fart and I like the looks of the old snake guides. For heavier rods say a 6wt and heavier I have no problem with the single foot guides. Many years ago one of Lefty's books indicated the...

Re: Fly rod length help

80% of my fishing is with a 6' rod. I do not feel hampered other than mending. I do not use it for nymphing. Distance is a matter of line speed and high line speeds can be attained with a short rod....

Re: Korean carp?

Joni uses a little ball of yellow chenille with a white soft hackle. I find that to be kinda weird. I am guessing the carp take it as an egg of some sort. Hey! whatever works.

Re: Best all-around flats fishing line?

That SA Grand Slam line seems to be what dreams are made of . I have put in on my wish list and I normally like to pay less than $40 for a line. Has anyone used one of these lines?

Re: Need help for choosing first saltwatet fly combo

I don't believe that there is a graphite rod out there that will withstand high sticking or any other type of abuse. Let's face it, if you get any knick in the blank it rod will likely at some point...

Re: Small stream rod

A 9' rod does not fit every situation. I would be very happy to take you to the creeks that I fish and show you why I fish 6' rods. I also own 9'ers but they are a nightmare to fish on these creeks....

Re: Ultralite fly setup

I have a TFO Signature 6' 2wt and if you like fast rods this should fill the bill. I sometime fish up to a 5wt line on the rod and it will handle it just fine. With the 2wt line it fishes quite fast...
