Re: St Croix Legend Elite 968-4

Have the same rod, great one for steelheading. The previous generation had brown colored blanks the new IPC versions have green for freshwater and blue for salt.

Re: Scott G2 8'4 4 weight / T&T LPS II 8'6 4 weight

Matt-
I have the Scott 844-4 and use it frequently on a wide range of waters. One of the Scott tech guys considers the 844-4 the best taper in the 4 weight G2 line up. It is very capable /...

Re: Redington CT 3wt action compared to Orvis Sft?

I own a SFT 904-4 and the CT 803-6 & cast the SFT 763-4 several times when deciding to buy the SFT 904-4. With the SA Mastery Trout Taper WF lines, I felt that the SFT 763-4 was a tad bit softer than...

Re: Help with reel to balance my orvis sft 3wt 7'6?

Highly second the recommendation for a current Battenkill II, will balance the rod well & look great....use the $100 left over for something else.

Re: Orvis Sft or Sage Txl-f?

Echo what has been said about the Sft....one cast & you will be hooked. I love my 904-4 Sft. Another rod worth adding to your list is the winston BIIT...these were discontinued so can be found either...

Re: Wool indicator or yarn indicator

Lanolin is the key! regular (e.g. ones sold at the hobby stores) wool is generally treated, this removes the Lanolin so it does not float as well as the wool that you get in the NZ Strike Indicator...

Re: What to wear under Simms wader in summer?

Wear a light layer, a pair of light synthetic pants (e.g. Simms Flyte or any one of the options from other companies, Columbia, REI etc..)

Just one thing to always remember - Anything but Cotton :)

Re: NRX 8'8" 3wt. LP ?

The gold should be fine as well.....I just preferred the SA Mastery Trout over the gold on the NRX LP for my casting style. I have found that the SA line taper works for the type / distance I...

Re: NRX 8'8" 3wt. LP ?

I played with the NRX LP 8'8" 3wt for a week-end last Fall. I compared it head to head with the Hardy Zenith 9' 3wt, so my comments are relative:
Fly Line: The NRX LP loved the Mastery Trout WF3F,...

Re: Monster on my 2wt

Its probably the lack of exercise, high sugar diet, easy access to cheap un-healthy fast food and irresponsible parents ;)

Dry Fly Fix - A pictorial

Finally got the chance to shake off the winter blues last week-end. Took the family camping and only fished dries to some willing natives. In series - the campsite, the flies I tied and used & some...

Re: Galvan Rush Light, Nautilus FWX, Hardy UltraliteDD

I have the Ross Evo LTs, Galvan Torque and also the Nautilus FWX reels on my other rods, but for my Zenith the older Orvis Battenkill II in the gold finish suits my eye fine. The balance on the 10'...

Winston Boron II T 480-4: Mint Condition

A few months ago, I purchased both the 486-4 and the 480-4 versions of this series. After fishing both of them side by side for 2 days, I have decided to keep the 486-6 and offer the 480-4 for sale....

A bunch of Fly Lines (Wulff, SA, Rio & SAGE)

I went through a stage of buying a variety of lines to match them against specific fly rods. I finally completed that process, so the extras are being sold as follows. Most all the lines are...

Re: Heading to Smokies - Places to fish with kids

If you are based in Sevierville, I second the suggestion to fish the delayed harvest waters between Pigeon forge and Gatlinburg. Your kids will have a great time. If you tie flies, plan on using some...

Re: North Carolina last minute

Justin-
I can offer some input since I fish there at least 3 or 4 times a year.
Option 1:
You can stay at Bryson City or Sylva, NC. Both cities have many motels and hotels in a wide range of...

Most of my rods fall in the moderate action genre, since I find that action to suit my casting style well. Specific to your question, I have the current Superfine Touch 490-4, an older Far & Fine...

Colorado Guide Reco..

A close friend of mine is visiting Breckenridge in June & was interested in fishing for a couple of days. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good guide in the area?

Thanks

Re: Jig Hook Paterns?

On jig hooks, I tie the nymphs 'in the round'…that way the orientation of the body parts does not matter. If you don't want to do this, then you could tie the pattern such that the wing case is on...
