Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

I would argue they are both excellent reels with the Abel maybe getting a slight nod for durability and a few points knocked off for weight in SW or Big Game reels. I would also argue that the Bauer...

Re: Greys XF2 Streamflex 7'-6", 4wt - Opinions?

Well, at least two managers from Hardy made the move.

I suspect the Greys move is about the fact that in the US Fenwick and Pfluegger both already have a history in the industry. Where as in the...

Re: Greys XF2 Streamflex 7'-6", 4wt - Opinions?

It seems that Pure acquisition has been a mixed bag.

I know they have kept on Howard Crofton.

They did not "axe" the entire operation, most were offered the transfer to Pure's hdq. in...

Re: New Winston.....

I've talked to the local Winston Rep and he claims the Nexus is a far faster rod then anything Winston has done with the exception perhaps of the B III SX. As far as price point, I believe in all...

Re: Radian vs Zenith.....

I use to rep Hardy and the 6 weight Zenith while a good rod never impressed me. To me the 4 and 5 weights are the sweetspot in that series. The 9-5 is still the best all-around 9-5 I've ever fished....

Re: Greys GS

This fish was pushing 30 last year on 6 pound flouro leader and a size 14 egg fly. The water was low and clear so I went light and small to get her to eat. My biggest is 42 on an 8 pound Maxima...

Re: Greys GS

20 pound tippet is a HUGE tippet for Salmon. I don't know anyone using tippets that size class anywhere but AK. On the Great Lakes we typically fish 8-12 pound fouro-carbon depending on the water...

Loomis not changing Warrenty

Angling trade had this yesterday, just to clear up some confusion, no change in the current Loomis warranty. The changes rummored only apply to Shimano products.

Correction: Loomis Not Changing...

Re: Streamer line for Hardy Zenith 9' #4?

I must be perfectly honest ( I use to be the Hardy-Cortland rep). Streamer line for a 4 weight? No such thing. With the exception of occasionally throwing some smaller bead-head Wooly Buggers with a...

Re: Bauer Rogue Reels - Opinions/Reviews

I rep'd them for four years in the MW (I'm no longer a rep). And I was very impressed. Not only did I not have one return in three states, but my reels held up great. I didn't fish my Rogues real...

Re: Hardy Customer Service

One of the good things Pure Fishing did with the Hardy purchase was to improve the Warrenty. Under the old owners you would have been looking at over $100 for the same repair. Kudo's, to them for...

Re: Steelhead rods

I've fished those creeks for years and a 10-7 is a good place to start in a single handed rod. I would personally stay away from some of the extra fast action rods. Unlike a lot 10-7's that are made...

Re: Rio Camolux Int or Cortland 444 Camo Int?

I will say this much, There are a couple of real big shops out west that carry no other Cortland line but the 444 Camo. Most of the high lake fisherman out west consider it their go too line. I used...

Re: Does made in USA matter?

Pete, Just to clarify (and I'm no loner connected to the company in any way). NOTHING in Rods or Reels from Hardy has ever been produced in China. They make most of their rods and some of their reels...

Re: 2014 5-weight Shootout: Fly Rod Review and Test

Has anyone here cast the older Hardy Marksman 9-5 with the skeletal reel seat? That was one of Howard Croftons first designs at Hardy and the first FW series they did in S Korea. I remember casting...

Re: 1-2-3 wt rods need a question answered!!!!!

I see an awful lot of fisherman on the stream especially trout and salmon fishing that have no idea of the limits of their tackle or matching leaders to their gear. A 7X on tippet on a vast majority...

Re: 2014 5-weight Shootout: Fly Rod Review and Test

I think this shootout is pretty spot on. The only one I had any problem with was the B IIIX, I found it faded at about 50' with a true to line size line. While I wouldn't rate the H2 #1, I haven't...

Re: High end reels.

A couple of points:

While I wouldn't hesitate to mount a Saracione on a fine Bamboo for trout fishing I suggest you go over to the spey pages before your placement on the high end list. They have...

Re: High end reels.

Sweet and Salt, I would certainly have to add Bauer and Hardy to that list of high end reels. While you can argue that not every reel they make is high end, the Rogue and Fortuna are certainly the...

Re: Fly Rod Objectivity Related to Environment

I would tend to agree, while there are a few rods which may cross over like the 9-5 8'6"-4 Zentih for the most part the more traditional rods are far better for the applications of small stream...

Re: Magibraid?

It should hold OK in an albright knot. BUT,use know sense to coat the knot. I do that with all my backing to fly line connectors. It not only locks them up, but if you get a fish into your backing it...

Re: G.Loomis - A New Industry Standard?

I agree 100%. In MI, OH, IN, KY, TN, Loomis has 2 legitamate Fly rod dealers. Winston for comparison has about 15, Scott about the same. If I want to try a Loomis NRX I have to drive 6 hours. Dealer...

Re: "Fast action" vs "Stiff"

You nailed it. I think a simple explanation might be a that "fast" when it comes to Fly rods is a description of the material more than the action. A fast three weight is still a three weight and...

Re: "Fast action" vs "Stiff"

Sorry, but not true.

A fast action rod is a rod made of faster recovering materials. While if you were to just shake it, it might appear stiff, but if you loaded it would flex. While it's true...

Re: My Dad's old Cortland GRF 1000...

Cortland had a sweet spot with their 8 1/2 5 weight graphites. If I didn't own a Winston, the Cortland Brook would be one of my go to rods in that size. I don't know if it was an accident or what,...
