Re: Plan B: Goldens in the Bighorns

Bravo and well done! Fishing for goldens high up in the Rockies just don't get no better in my book. Looks like you ran into some rotten weather yet stuck it out. Always looks a lot easier than it...

Re: An Afternoon of Dry Fly Fishing the Green (Day 2 added)

Okay, I'm moving to Pinedale as soon as I can. Amazing local fishing as Larry always illustrates. The town is literally in the shadow of the high-lake shrine that is the Wind River Range........and...

Re: Best Insect Repellent?

I hike and fish all summer, every summer high up in the Rockies which is about as bad as it gets when it comes to skeeters and gnats. Biting flies also can be an annoying problem. I have two...

Re: Rawah Wilderrness Colorado Flies

Looks like the weather will be improving greatly over the next few days. You should have typical late summer weather up there. Other than the crowds, Labor Day weekend just don't get no better up...

Re: Rawah Wilderrness Colorado Flies

Griffith's gnat is my go to dry on high lakes. Caddis are usually abundant in the high country. I fish adult and emerger patterns. I skate big adult imitations on the surface and I strip emergers...

Re: Rough going in the Popo Agie - Wind River Range

Yeah, I heard y'all got hit right after I got out. The cooler weather was setting in just as I made my walk. In fact, I couldn't have hit the weather more perfectly for my exit hike. My favorite...

Re: Well, what was left of my summer is now wrecked

My old Civic was hail-damaged workhorse that I dumped lots of miles on. We used to call it the "Titleist" because all horizontal surfaces on the car looked like a golf ball. This new Civic is...

Rough going in the Popo Agie - Wind River Range

Just got back from an eight night trip into the northern region of the Popo Agie Wilderness Area in the Winds. I car camped at the trailhead for two nights and then I did a glorious six night...

Re: Well, what was left of my summer is now wrecked

Just got my replacement vehicle!!! Lots of Civics in the Denver market so I scooped up an exact replica but except bright red. Not jazzed about the color but I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Re: Rocky Mountain National Park

All depends on the weather and how tough you are. I myself am pretty weak when it comes to wet wading but one of my fishing partners can wet wade all day in colder temperatures.

Re: Trip Report- Backpacking RMNP

Oh!!! I gotta throw a picture of the actual lake itself. As you descend, you can walk over to the edge of the ridge and gauge you descent progress (you don't go down these gullies to the lake -...

Re: Trip Report- Backpacking RMNP

Yeah, Arrowhead is a little different story. When I said you "essentially" can get to most waters in the park, my one reservation about hiking in the park is to Arrowhead. There's no sugarcoating...

Re: Trip Report- Backpacking RMNP

Nice report, keep em coming!

I went to the area in 2011 and had the same good fortune. Day hiked to the upper lake in 2008 and got skunked due to poor weather. You completed a pretty...

Re: Fishing the Wind River Range

Yeah, they have a way of doing that. Once you hook into a Wind River Range golden, you're addicted for life. The Winds are my favorite backpacking area in all the Rockies and I know them fairly...

From reading Rich Osthoff's chapter about the Teton Wilderness in his Rocky Mtn book, it sounds like a day on Bridger Lake would be a good bet.

Re: Well, what was left of my summer is now wrecked

Thanks for all the kind words. Grateful to be alive......no doubt. But I'll miss my old friend. I literally bought the hail-damaged '08 Civic specifically to dump miles on it. I got it after a...

Well, what was left of my summer is now wrecked

As many of y'all know, I am avid backpacker-flyfisher of the high lakes of Colorado and Wyoming. Usually each summer I spend all of July and August up in the mountains, but work has been very busy...
