Dropping the Fly--Adapting to Different Conditions--A Video

Most of the carp I catch are 25-40 feet away. There are times when murky water, cloudy skies, and hard wind conspire to keep from seeing carp until I am very close to them. There are also times when...

Re: Floating Line for New 5wt Legend Elite?

Congratulations on the purchase of your new rod, Croaker. I think you will love the rod; I sure love mine.

I have never fished a Barrio line.

I use my EFW905.4 rods for trout. I usually carry...

Re: New scadden boat

I'm sure you'll love the boat! PFD's for sure. The only other tip is to not let it sit in your garage; get out and use it a LOT.

Carp are big, strong, smart, and wary. They are the world's greatest sportfish.

After the Hookset--a Video

I had hoped to produce at least 3 videos this winter--possibly 4. Hmmm... I have worked on them but alas, here is the first one I have actually finished. It is not meant to be instructional; it is...

Re: Carp in Low-Vis Water?

Try nymphs or egg patterns under an indicator. Gregg Martin in Idaho has really done a lot of this and has success.

Re: New to Fly Fishing; need advice on these rods

Think about how easy it will be for you to transport two piece rods. It might not be an issue and you may want to only get 4 piece rods.

Re: Opinion on chinese or korean built rods?

I agree with Dean Mt. St. Croix rods are a tremendous value. They are made in Wisconsin and come with a lifetime warranty. I broke the tips on two rods last summer while netting carp. I have one...

Re: Maintaining a journal

There were no personal computers when I started fly fishing. Ball point pens may have just been invented the week before. From the beginning a journal was a part of the experience for me. My...

Re: Broken Rods

Cowger10, glad you got some time on the water. Too bad about the rod. I hope your new section or new rod comes soon and you are back out fishing.

I wonder if the "warranty" on a rod isn't a...

Re: Which Simms boots should I get?

Simms makes great boots. I have an old pair of Freestone boots with felt and a pair with felt and cleats. I have a pair of the G-3's with vibram soles and the Hardbite Star Cleats. I also have a...

Welcome to the Future: a video

This video is not meant to be one bit instructional or helpful--well not helpful in the sense of learning how to fish for carp. It is mostly clips of takes from very visible fish. Watching my own...

Re: Wow Patagonia (new Atom Stealth pack on the way)

I love my Stealth Atom Sling Pack. It holds everything I need when I'm wading, it's out of the way, and it's comfortable to carry. Well, maybe not everything I need--a chair would be nice for...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

In Washington, the prolific steelhead runs of decades past are virtually gone. Steelhead patterns like the Skykomish Sunrise, the Purple Peril, and the Skunk, probably would have been more...

Re: It's a good thing im not married!!!!

Waterfordcreek, I am easily confused these days as you will readily be able to tell. I get that $1,200 is a lot for a rod and reel and I get the whole evil voice and good voice thing. I myself hear...

My maiden voyage in a float tube was in 1973. There was only one kind of float tube way back then. It was green canvas around an inner tube. You sat very low in the water. Since there was no...

Re: I need a back-up rod. Or do I?

Last week, were I asked the question, "How many more rods do you need?", I would have said, "One".

I bought two rods this past weekend.

Today, were I asked the question, "How many more rods...
