I also have a 590 ZXL. It is the rod I have been using for competition. I love it. Forgiving tip and a good backbone. Recovery is a bit sloppy.

Is that your final answer?

I made my decision and ordered the rod today. Although I like the Bolt and the wicked ultra fast action I wanted the latest and greatest of Sage's dirty-works.

It's time for you to make a change. Even a good 7.5 minute topo will get you darn close with a straight edge....Its a drainage which takes a lot of the guess work out of it.

Twist the male end on your nose oil or the back of your neck, then when you set the two pieces align them off by half a turn and when you are towards the end of the tighten make a twist to align...

There are to many species to list that you can go after with a fly.

Your 7 and 9 will do just fine.

For the salt I like a really stiff rod, not for the cast but for the set.
