Re: Old/New Fly Ride

sunshine, you can't stand on this bow the way I configured it. It's just for storage. At our age, with our wobbly legs, standing up and casting from a boat is not an option.:icon_wink. A casting deck...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

It was an interesting project. I learned a lot. The only tool I had to buy was a two hand rivet set. The trailer was a bit short, so I extended the tongue by two feet. Built a new winch post, new...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

roguebum, it can be a hassle at times. That is one reason for the seat slides. We tend to let our line drop in the water. The stripping apron was more trouble than it was worth. Not perfect, but we...

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

All wood was sealed with 4 coats of marine grade spar varnish on all sides. I spent many hours on line asking questions. Rather do it right even if it cost more.

Re: Old/New Fly Ride

It doesn't show in the pics, but I have removable 1/4" rubber matting on the floor. Cut's down on the noise and glare. You can see a bit of it in this pic.

Old/New Fly Ride

My wife and I are strictly warm water fly fishers. Until now we have been limited to a local pond in a two person pond boat or bank fishing at lakes.
About 7 months back I did some trading with a...

Spent Saturday doing the annual garden pond maintenance. Remover excess plants and cleaned the filtration system.

Wife's first bass on fly rod

Went to the pond near our house for our first trip of the year. We caught about 25 bream and 4 bass. This is a pic of my wife's first bass on the fly rod. She was using 9' 5wt Redington CT with a #8...

Wow!
This is a perfect example of why members should post problems with suppliers on here. There is no excuse for suppliers not communicating the truth to customers when you have their money.
I,...

Re: Shoulder issues!

I also have some major shoulder problems. Torn rotator cuff and a clavicle that looks like a Z as a result of a fall years ago. You can do a lot by just using the fore arm. I am a blacksmith and can...

Re: Fishing chicks?

My wife and I have been fishing buddies for 24 years. I used fly rods and she fished spin gear. Last year she crossed over to the dark side, so we both fish fly rods. She loves her Redington 9-5wt....

Re: How 'nasty' is today's weather going to be?

Here are some pics of our front yard. We live near I-85 where it crosses the NC/SC line. We have about 7" on the ground and it's still snowing.
I know by northern standards it's not that much, but...

Re: Newb Checking In

Welcome to the mad house. Lot's of great people and info here. Since I only fish warm water, won't be much help unless you want to catch some pan fish. :D

Re: Let's see your tying station

We live in a small 4 room 75+ year old house, so space is at a premium. My computer desk does dual duty.

Re: Glass vs plastic

I have an old Olympic glass rod that I rescued from a dumpster. Loaded with an 8wt line, it will really punch into the wind. Don't know the weight, but it casts well if I slow down and let it work....

Re: Switching from dry to nymph quickly

I fish warm water only. I use a 5' ten lb. furled leader with ring and add 4'-7' of tippet. It really doesn't take that long to change the setup. Besides, at my age, I no longer get in a hurry.

Re: Merry Christmas to me!

Put line on it and give it a try. You will have to slow down a bit, but you may be surprised.

Re: Redington CT 4wt 9ft?

I have two Redington Ct 9ft rods, a 5wt and a 6wt, and they both fish great. I remember seeing a post on another forum stating that the 4wt 9ft was the sweet spot of the CT line.
