Re: Winston Boron II MX 5/6 wt 9ft

Several years ago I received a Winston B2MX 9' 5wt while signing up for a life membership in Trout Unlimited. It came with a Lamson Guru 1.5 loaded with 5wt line. I did not like the way it loaded...

Re: All around 4wt

I know this sounds like a broken record on my posts, but perhaps you should check the Albright A5. I know their pricing policy is annoying but I have a 9' 5wt that I have used for years and it is a...

Re: Bauer MacKenzie CFX vs Galvan Torque

I have a Winston B2x 6wt 9' which thinks it needs a newer, higher priced reel.
I have used a Konic 2 on it and it works great. I have seen the Ross CLA 2 and it would work fine. However, I have...

Re: Best reel for Winston 8' 4wt tmf ?

I have a lightweight 8ft 4wt rod and I use an Orvis BBS II on it. It balances and is fun to use. Its also not too expensive.

Re: Hardy DD Ultralite 4000 v Nautilus FWX 5/6 for Winston B2x 9' 6wt

Sweetandsalt:
Is the Nautilus 5/6 FWX too light for the Winston B2x 9' 6wt(every so slightly under 3 ounces)? If so, should I get a 7/8 or add t14 line weight to it?
Your thoughts would be greatly...

Re: Hardy DD Ultralite 4000 v Nautilus FWX 5/6 for Winston B2x 9' 6wt

Thanks for the input, I think I am going with the Nautilus, the 3.8 oz wt appeals to me as the Winston rod is quite light.
Thanks,
barham

Re: 9' 6wt ?

I bought a Sage Flight 7wt 9' (discontinued, now Sage Response) on ebay for $150.00. I love it for bass here in Texas.
Cordially,

Re: Travel 5 Weights

I agree with Logic1; I have had an Albright A5 5wt 9' which casts right up there with my Winston B3x and Sage SLT. You can buy the newer version, which is the same as mine, for about $150.00.

Re: best value 8wt rod and reel?

I have a TFO BVK 8wt 9' which I like. However, I bought a Sage Flight (no longer being made by Sage-now it is the Response) in 7wt 9' on ebay for $150.00 and I really like it for bass here in Texas....

Re: Hardy DD Ultralite 4000 v Nautilus FWX 5/6 for Winston B2x 9' 6wt

I know I am drifting off the subject of this thread, but since I have imposed on you fellas today, I will ask one more question.
How would rate the Orvis Access III as compared to the Nautilus and...

Thanks for the reply. It is funny about your mention of Craig, that is where my wife, son and I go. Great fishing isn't it?

Hardy DD Ultralite 4000 v Nautilus FWX 5/6 for Winston B2x 9' 6wt

I am looking for a new reel for my Winston listed above. I really don't need one as my Lamson Konic 2 and Guru 1.5 are fine. However, for some reason neither do much for me. Perhaps I like the more...

Re: Winston B2MX versus Winston GVX 6 wt

I have the B2MX in 5wt; it is too stiff for me. Although I have not cast the GVX, my absolute favorite fly rod, and I have the Sage Zaxis and Winston B3X, is the B2X 6wt which I got on ebay for...

Re: Dan Craft Line Up

I know its not a Dan Craft blank, but I have built several medium fast rods on Mudhole MX fly blanks and they are nice. They are not expensive and Mudhole is very easy to deal with. You can buy...

Consider an Albright A5ns, on line, for around $150.00. I have one and its a good rod.

Difference in weight of built rod from mfg's specs

I recently wrapped a TFO BVK 8wt 9ft with a detachable fighting butt. I did nothing fancy with the wrap and the rod came out at 5.1 ounces according to my little postage meter scale. On TFO's...

Re: TFO BVK - One sweet rod!

I just finished building a tfo bvk 9' 8wt with a removable fighting butt. I mated it with an old Gunnison G4 reel with 8wt Rio Saltwater line. I have only lawn cast it but it seems awful nice. I...

Re: Has anyone ever cast a Winston WT in the 9 foot range?

I think you made a wise decision. I am partial to Winston rods; my wife has a
9' 5wt B3x which is a dream to cast; my favorite is a 9' 6wt B2x which is crisper than the 5wt B2x. I have a 9' 5wt WT...

Re: Tiger eye rod blanks?

For whatever it is worth, I paid $50.00 or so for an 8 wt blank. I called several times and emailed -- no reply. I got tired of waiting and ignored so I built the rod with TFO blanks. $50.00 loss...

I agree with the comments above. I will say, though, that, owning several sage, winston, and st croix rods in five weight, one of my favorite all around 5 wt rod in the Albright A5 five piece 9' rod....
