Re: Effective small pond fishing

I'm not sure if turbineblade addressed it, but the deepest portions of many small ponds develop low-oxygen conditions during the summer months, and often it's only the upper water column which can...

Re: Effective small pond fishing

Your floating line should work fine, especially during the spring- bass and bluegill are spring spawners, and tend to stay shallow and close to the bank until the heat of the summer. They're also...

Re: Wet Wading

x2 on the Frog Toggs, excellent alternative to standard waders. If you're looking to truly wet wade and are concerned about warmth then wool may be an option, but I'm not sure how comfortable hiking...

Re: Fly fishing for school credit?

I believe Missouri State teaches fly fishing elective courses, and I know several high schools in the area are using fly-fishing as an afterschool educational activity.

Re: Foam for shiny, green beetles

There's another product out there...I believe it's called Medallion sheeting- basically pearlescent mylar film dyed to all sorts of colors. You may be able to glue it to a craft foam backing with...

Re: Get me started-catching carp and buffalo

Buffalo are a freshwater sucker species native to the US- they look very similar to carp, but in my experience are typically grayish-black with a green iridescence. There's three species (I know...

Re: Foam for shiny, green beetles

Not sure about making it at home, but many shops carry a product that's called Loco Foam- foam with a metallic or pearlescent coating on one side.

Here's one example: Loco Foam | mudhole.com...

Re: 2013 Goals...

Nice to see what some of you guys are planning. I felt like I didn't get nearly enough time on the water in 2012, and was just making a list of what I wanted to accomplish in 2013 last night.

- I...

Re: Fish ID

That was the thing that threw me, that you'd seen several in multiple places. But I suppose if a local pet shop had been selling them as ornamentals it could explain their distribution. And if...

Autumn Fishing WI & UP

Hey folks,

It looks like I may have some time off in mid September, and I'm looking hard at fishing Wisconsin and northern Michigan. I'd like to do a mix of coldwater and warmwater fishing...

Alright, where would you go?

Gimme some ideas :)

Re: Wet Fly or Streamer?

A lot of it is just semantics- streamers tend to be larger than wet flies, and typically are meant to imitate baitfish or sculpins. Historically, you had "streamers" constructed with feather wings...

Re: Is the hair trend dead in your area?

Re: Cutbow?

I agree with Dean- from the pics it looks as though there are few if any black spots on the top of the head, and practically no white tipping on the ventral fins. Probably not 100% but most state...

Re: Is the hair trend dead in your area?

I think the trend hit the high-water mark here over the summer, demand seems to be ebbing quite a bit now. Seems like once the redneck Ozark girls latched onto it, the urban clientele decided they...
