Re: Help?!?! Private Stocked Water With Fed Fish

In my experience, Iowa stocks streams with fish populations well above the carrying capacities of the streams. So until enough get harvested to bring down the trout below the carrying capacity,...

Re: Your Favorite Western NC Stream

Wilson Creek DH gets hammered! The best bet, though, is to drive all the way to the top of the DH, park right after you cross the river back onto the west bank for the last time, and fish upstream....

Re: It's That Time Again, What Was Your Best Fishing Experience of 2014?

I spent way too little time on the water this year. Life getting in the way.

I hiked into the Shenandoah National Park this spring with my brother and we camped the night. I finally got him his...

Re: Your Favorite Western NC Stream

If you're completely new, I recommend starting with one of the Delayed Harvest stretches. They're a bit crowded, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if you're new. Meet people and ask questions....

Re: Your Favorite Western NC Stream

The best trout streams are freestone streams way up in the mountains that can't sustain much pressure. Plus there are a fair number of poachers up there whose values don't quite align with mine.

Re: Actually, What Are My Basics?

I fish in western NC as well, but I prefer to hike a couple miles to avoid crowds. So I go light:

1. 4"x6" box of flies
2. floatant
3. spare leader
4. 3 sizes of tippet
5. clipper
6....

Re: Abercrombie & Fitch reel - Uniqua?

Thanks for the help, guys. Looks like it's not too valuable to fish with, which is good news, right? :)

Re: Do any of you fish in western NC/eastern Tennessee?

Re: Ready for winter?

I mowed the yard this weekend and sat outside in a t-shirt drinking bourbon on the rocks. Y'all doing it wrong.

Re: Do any of you fish in western NC/eastern Tennessee?

Just keep on driving up Brown Mountain Beach Rd until it rejoins 90. Take a left on 90. Keep driving up the mountain. There are several trailheads that lead down to the headwaters of the Wilson...

Re: Rapidan in Early November?

Nice fish! Rapidan brookies get more pressure than brookies anywhere else in the park, so they can be quite picky at times. They really are beautiful fish, aren't they?

Re: Do any of you fish in western NC/eastern Tennessee?

Or better yet, drive a couple more miles and hike a mile to the headwaters of the Wilson with excellent wild trout fishing. The delayed harvest section gets very crowded!

Re: Fredericksburg VA

You're just over an hour from the Eastern slope streams of the Shenandoah National Park. Excellent brook trout fishing, if you're into that. The only fly shops I know of in that area are in the DC...

I personally feel a lot closer to God while knee deep in a mountain stream than I do in church. I'm in constant dialogue with Him in both places.

Re: Cool weather trout fishing

Up in the mountains on free stone streams, winter fishing can be tough. No springs mean water temps get down into the 30s/low 40s. This is compounded by low flows and usually bright and clear days....

Re: What's this?

Definitely a stonefly nymph. They live for years under rocks in fast moving water, then crawl up on shore to hatch. So don't use emergers. A bead-head hare's ear tied in appropriate colors is an...
