Re: Pet Peeve's.............

I only have three things that get to me when I take a friend out fishing. I always provide all fly's, leader material, and sometimes rods so I don't care if they have no gear at all, no bother to me....

Re: Rod Supplies by Roger

I've built a few rods from his kits. One 8' 3pc 4wt that is an awesome rod, and a few 9' 9wt 3pc rods I built from his 12' 4pc 7wt kits, they're great rods as well. The components are on the cheap...

Re: 9-12 wt what your pick and why

My first choice for any size reel is Abel, no need for an explanation... Their reputation speaks for itself. And just like others have said, Tibor, Nautilus, Hatch, and Galvan are all good choices...

Re: 9' 8-weight versus 11' 8-weight (switch)?

Isn't what you are describing in essence creating a shorter lever to fight the fish with by elimiating the tip from the equation and fighting from the butt?..... I'm no physics expert but...

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

Yeah it's huge, I can't wait to get to Baja in May to give it a workout. I don't have the reel yet but I have played with them before. Here's a little taste of how big these reels are....

The...

Re: Smith Optics vs Costa Del Mar

Costa's... No question. The 580 glass is super clear and designed for fishermen. Even the poly lenses are better than any other I have had. Smith should stick to what they know best... ski goggles....

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

The T-18 has a 6" diameter and the pacific is 5 1/4"... Both are beasts. The pacific is an inch larger in diameter than my biggest reel was and the T-18 is just plain huge, it looks more like a wagon...

Abel #3N Large Arbor/Super 6

I'm selling one of my Super 6 reels, I just don't use the smaller gear much anymore so I'm clearing out some doubles. It is in great mechanical condition and shows some signs of use but no signs of...

Re: 9' 8-weight versus 11' 8-weight (switch)?

Your exactly right, a longer rod will add more protection or buffer for the leader/tipper. But in my original post I was just trying to clarify the fact a longer rod provides no extra leverage....

Re: 9' 8-weight versus 11' 8-weight (switch)?

It makes perfect sense because it's simple physics, no made up bs it's just the way things work and neither you or I can do a thing to change it. The lever provides pressure on the fulcrum(the axis...

Re: 9' 8-weight versus 11' 8-weight (switch)?

No it won't, the longer rod actually gives the fish more leverage on your hand/wrist. Your hand/wrist is the fulcrum and the tip of the rod is the end of he lever in which the pressure is applied to....
